MAGNUM & YOUNG DISH UP SUNDAY TREAT

By web - June 8 2010
Another cracking game of Sunday cricket ended with the Green Caps winning a 450+ run game by 10 runs against Ship Shop. Hythe batted first and locals must thought Huxter had reversed the batting order when Hythe were 7-3. But a 108 5th wicket stand between Mike Graham (5) and Matt Young (50) set up the charge as Hythe ended on 231-8. Matt Howe (36) and Harry Smith (35) also dipped in with runs. Ship Shop were always in contention and at drinks were ahead of the run rate at 138-3 but Matt Howe 3-24 and Harry Smith 3-39 helped Hythe to a 10 run win.

Another Top Sunday Game Ends In Hythe Win

450 runs - 17 wkts and a 10 run margin - You don't get many better than that on a Sunday as Ship Shop once again came up from Bedhampton and gave Hythe a cracking game. Hythe batted first and recovered from 13 for 3 to 231 for 8 thanks to fifties from Mike Graham and Matt Young. Ship Shop were always in the chase until Tom Huxley 0-23 off 7 and Matt Howe 3-24 turned the screw in the final stages.

With Quinney back home in Kent - Tom Huxley captained the side which saw a late withdrawal in Adriaan de Jager who was still recovering from the night before. Tom Porter replaced.

Ship Shop won the toss and elected to field first. Huxters first job was to select the batting line up and onlookers (including Woodsys mum) must have thought he reversed it as A.Woods 0, Tom Porter 6, and Tom Richards (Saturdays hero) 0 all came and went in 2 overs. Hythe 13 for 3

Watching from the other end Matt Howe must have wondered what was going on. He and Young took on the rebuilding and after 10 overs had moved onto 42 for 3. In the 16th over though Howe was caught off McIntyre for 36 and Hythe were still in trouble at 69 for 4. Enter Hong Kong Mike spurred on by his non selection on a Saturday and his green and black baggie hat he set about thye Ship Shop bowling. Graham and Matt Young added 108 for the 5th wicket in 17 overs. Young finally going for 50 inc 6x4's. Hythe 177 for 5.

Mike Graham then brought up his first Hythe fifty inc 9x4's before he was 6th out at 187 for 58. Harry Smith scored a quick fire 35 and Hythe finished on 231 for 8 - what a recovery.

After tea Hythe opened the bowling with Jonjo Stovell and the welcome return of Tim Bath coming up hill. 28 came off the first 6 overs but then Stovell had Hamilton caught behind by Matt Young for 9. Bath's 5 over spell ended with 0-34 whilst Stovell's 6 overs went for 1-37. Ship Shop started to get on top and at 11 overs moved onto 71 for 1. Enter Harry Houdini. First over and two wickets - McIntyre bowled for 26 and Rowell well caught by Punchey Mills for 4 - Ship Shop 75 for 3.

At drinks Wainwright and Humphries had moved them onto 138 for 3 and the game was evenly poised. 22nd over and Smith claimed his 3rd wicket when Stovell held onto a very good catch to dismiss dangerman Wainwright for 69. Humphries (40) soon followed - bowled by Matt Howe and when Howe struck again to dismiss Wilkinson for 0 (caught by Smith) Ship Shop were 168 for 6 off 28.

At 186 Howe struck again with a caught & bowled to get rid of Wilkinson with 8 overs to go. The Shepherd brothers added 21 in 5 overs to take Ship into the 200's before G.Shepherd was Run Out by Richards for 9. Evans 9* joined L.Shepherd to add another 20 before Shepherd was out in the 39th over for 25 - bowled by Richards. Ship Shop ending 10 runs short on 221 for 9 but great entertainment
