HYTHE UNDER 11's vs HYDE
21st May @ Jones Lane
Final Over Defeat For Under 11's In The New Forest Cup
![]() | ![]() |
| Tom LADBURY 1-6 off 3 overs | Pieter LEVER 24 |
Hythe Under 11's put in a terrific effort before going out of the Cup to Hyde with two balls to go.
It was the first time the young green caps had played the 11 a side game - very well lead by Neal Reid they almost defended their small total. Only T.Goodwin -who had to retire not out on 27 was the difference between the two sides.
On a lovely sunny evening and bar takings getting the weekend off to a great start - Hythe lost the toss and were put into bat.
Hythe got off to the worst possible start losing skipper Neal Ried for 0 and when star man Jacob Mould went for 5 Hythe looked in deep trouble. Harry Swainston (2) and Freddie Molyneux (3) followed but a crucial partnership between Pieter Lever (24) and Tom Knight-Owen (12) gave the score some respectability. Lewie Fay (0), James Millyard (6) fell before Hythe ended their innings on 67 for 8 - surely not enough unless your the under 13's.
Hyde started their innings in the same way and Hythe hopes were high when Tom Ladbury caught & bowled Thomas for 1. Sam Copley then caught & bowled A.Lynch for 8 and you thought just maybe. But in stepped T.Goodwin who looked a very decent player for a young age. Still the Hythe bowlers stuck to their task and Lewie Fay bowled H.Bold for 7 and when M.Raybold was run out by Sam Copley for 7 it was game on.
With Goodwin now retired for an excellent 27 not out it was down to the final over and 4 needed. Bowled by Swainston 2 wides gave the away side the edge and with two balls to go A.Hill (8*) hit the winning runs to go through to the next round.
All the Hythe bowlers did well but special mention to Tom Ladbury who in 3 overs got figures of 1-6.
Now for Monday and the Under 13's are in a ction down Hythe in the cup vs Farley
