HYTHE UNDER 13's vs FARLEY

24th May @ Jones Lane

Hythe On Song & Through to Next Round With Comfortable 43 Run Win

Sam LONG 20 & 4-12

Skipper Alex Nicholas won the toss and elected to bat, as the 20 over match was due to end up being playing in poor light.

The team talk of a ‘steady start’ with plenty of overs to play went out of the window when we lost Elliot Carley and Alex Nicholas in the first over off Farley’s opening bowler Sam Burton. Sam Long steadied the loss by batting out to the seventh over and top scored with 20 with the aid of 4 fours.

Harrison, hit a four off his first ball and then 2 more driven fours before being bowled for 13. The score of 11 for 2 off the first two overs turned to 40 for 3 off 5 overs. Jordan Blandford came in and smashed his first ball for 4 and then steadily went onto score 13 before being caught out. Ali Bryers scored 3 before a dubious LBW decision but kept the scoring moving on with some good calling of runs. Sam Kelly, Archie Gilbert and Tom Copley all added to the score with runs of 8, 9 and 13 not out, respectively, Ben Fenton batted well scoring 5 and ran well on a couple of byes and kept the partnerships going well but was ran out looking for those couple of extra runs in the penultimate over. Billy Allan came in for the last over and added 6 runs with Tom Copley in the final over but was run out on the last ball of the inning looking for a second run. The Green Caps did well to bat out the 20 overs and put up a good score of 116 runs.

Farley scored 8 off the first over but Sam Long halted the progress with 2 wickets in his first over, the opening batsman out LBW and the No 2 clean bowled. Farley held on as we did, not losing another wicket until the 7^th over having put on 33 runs but behind the run rate required. Alex bowled their No3 and Sam Kelly ran out their No4 in the 8^th. Sam Long came on for his 3^rd over in the 8^th over and took 2 more wickets to give him 4 wickets for 12 runs, another excellent performance of bowling. Farley were struggling to score and Elliot Carley took their top scorer W.Wade (16 runs), in the 12^th over with Farley now on 61 for 7.

Ben Fenton then came onto bowl and after he had loosened up in his first over he took 2 wickets clean bowled in his 2^nd over. Apologies to Ben who had a six awarded against him when it was a clear 4, poor umpire decision by the leg umpire (Sorry Ben – please forgive me). Billy came on to bowl his first over and kept a tidy over with 3 coming off it before Sam Kelly finished the innings with Archie stumping their No9. Farley finished on 73 all out. An impressive 43 run win due to the good all round performance of the whole team – well done lads.
