OLD BASING vs HYTHE XI
Saturday 22nd May
De JAGERS TON NOT ENOUGH AS FIRSTS LOSE AGAIN ON TRAVELS
Adriaan DE JAGER 108* inc 6x4's & 5x6's
Even a superb 108 not out from Adriaan de Jager was not enough as Hythe 1st XI slipped to a second defeat in three games at Old Basing. De Jager's ton included 6x4's & 5x6's as he shared a club record 9th wicket partnership with Ben Smith (7).
Hythe skipper Si Dixon won the toss and elected to field first on a hot sunny day in north Hampshire. As usual the home side were going through their strict warm up routines on the outfield as the Hythe lads arrived which prompted the senior Hythe lads to light up a smoke.
Old Basing got off to a patient start scoring 34 off the first 10 overs. Jon Weall came off after 5 conceeding just 13 and Rich Froggett 6 - more expensive 0-29. At 15 the score had moved onto 66 for 0 but on 76 Rob Saunders got the breakthrough having Pope trapped LBW for 31. One wicket brings another as they sday and it did when Saunders caught & bowled Cooper for 42. Old Basing 81 for 2 at 19 and at the half way stage 95 for 2.
With Ben Smith bowling very well to keep Willcock quiet the wscore at 30 overs had only progressed to 138. Weall then got the prize wicket having Willcock caught by Wright for 23 and two more wickewts fell in quick succession when Belcher ( a ton scorer last week) was run out by Matt Howe for 36 after he spilled the original shot - then Huntington was caught and bowled by Wright for 5. Old Basing 147 for 5 off 34.
Not for the first time Hythe's inability to control the lower order occured and a 57 run 6th wicket partnership between D.Turner (35) and M.Donason (35) took the score over the 200 mark. Wright finally had Donason caught by Weall and then Froggett returned to dismiss Turner beofre the home side finished on 234 for 7. Jon Weall's excellent 1-35 off 10 and Ben Smith 0-39 off 10 the pick of the bowling.
Hythe got off to a cracking start in reply - with 49 coming off the first 10 and 83 off 15 as Matt Howe and Robbie James took control hitting 12 boundaries between them. Howe was then judged caught behind off Turner for 38 and wehn Si Dixon was bowled for 0 Hythe were 84 for 2 off 16. De Jager joined James but with the score on 96 Old Baing got their 3rd wicket - Rob James caught off Vyas for 42. Kev James (1) and Simon Wright (5) soon followed and Hythe's perfect start was a distant memory - 116 for 5 off 28. Froggett (2) Page (1) and Weall (2) all came and went as the Old Basing bowlers ripped through Hythe's middle order. 143 for 8. But de Jager was still there and when Ben Smith joined him at 10 he then took control of the situation. Smashing 6x4's and 5x6's the pair added 82 runs in 8 overs to bring up his ton leaving Hythe needing 10 off the last over to win. Sadly both Smith and Saunders were run out leaving Hythe's possible match winner stranded at the other end not out 108. Old Basing win by 8 runs.

Finally Has Anyone Seen Wrighty
Reports have it that Adi hit this massive six into the field with the cows, almost hitting a cow. Wrighty had to go into the field to retrieve the ball. As he picked the ball up he got chased by a cow back over to the fence.
As you can see above the cows still not happy as Wrighty got into his car.
