HYTHE SUNDAY XI vs COMPTON & CHANDLERS FORD

Sunday 15th May

Quinney's Unbeaten Record Goes Hythe Fold To Compton

Tom PORTER 36

Hythe Sunday XI's unbeaten record went this week at the hands of a good ten man Compton & Chandlers Ford side who pulled off some top catches in the field. Compton batted first scoring far too many against some untidy Hythe bowling - 225 for 8.

In reply Hythe made 153 all out thanks largely to Tom Porter 36 & Paul Quinnell 34.

Hythe who were looking forward to a challanging game suffered two blows 24 hours before the game when first teamers Matt Howe & Adriaan de Jager both dropped out through injury. Harry Smith and Tom Porter came into replace.

Compton got off to a good start on a good batting surface. 27 came off the first 4 overs before Spearing was caught by Stovell off Last for 10. At 37 they were two down Stovell caught & bowling Brennan for 8. Niazi at the other end was having no problems as he smashed the ball to the boundary with ease. With the score on 89 Compton lost their 3rd wicket - Scurrey bowled by Tom Huxley for 9.

At drinks the score had moved onto 98 for 3 and Quinney must have been satisifed how things were going. 56 runs were added for the 4th wicket before R.Spearing was out stumped by Matt Young off Mike Graham for 12. Niazi made 75 beforehe was nex to go caught by Stovell of Tom Richards. A.Garty (56) and J.Moretto (26) took the score over the 200 mark and a cameo knock from J.McGann (15) meant Compton finished their 40 overs on 225 for 7.

After a Quinney £45 buffet the Hythe batsman set about their target. In form Sam Mead opened with Sean Tongs and at the 4 over stage they were 26 for 0. Two wickets then fell in the 5th over as Mead (8) and Tongs (17) were both excellently caught off Dhariwell. Matt Young (8) and Mike Graham (5) both failed to make any impact and when Quinney failed to respond to a Harry Smith call Smith was run out for 21 - Hythe 77 for 5. By drinks though Quinnell and Tom Porter had taken the score to 122 for 5 and it was game on. However it wasn't to be Quinnell fell for 34 and Porter 36. The rest made single figures and Hythe were all out for a disappointing 153.

Thanks to Compton & Chandlers Ford for a good game. Hopefully they will want to come back next year to face a more determined Hythe side.
