HYTHE UNDER 17's vs LANGLEY MANOR

Thursday 13th May

LANGLEY TOO STRONG FOR 17's

Harry SMITH - 37*

On a sunny Thursday night, Hythe Under 17's entertained Langley Manor down at Jones lane.

Tom Richards won the toss and elected to field first hoping to skittle out the Manor order early. Langley Manor made a solid innings and finished on 156-5 from their 18 overs. In reply to that solid total the light was starting to go and early wickets fell to leave Hythe with an uphill task against a consistent bowling attack. They ended their 18 overs on 88-5.

Hythe started off with Richards and Powell with the ball. Both having good starts to their spells. Soon the Langley openers found their form and started to tickle over easy runs. When the first changes came, Langley started to kick on and hit 26 off Huxter’s 2 over’s. Jonjo Stovell bowled tight lines but got unlucky and deserved a wicket 4-0-29-0. Josh Mead came on up the hill and bowled good full length balls. Towards the end of the innings, Richards came back on with Matt Young for the last 4 over’s and both claimed good catches of each other. Langley ended up with 156-5 thanks to some top order solid hitting from the top order.

Hythe Batting opened with Stovell and Smith and the pair got off to a solid enough start - both ticking the runs over before Stovell lifted his head and got bowled for 7. That brought skipper in who was also bowled by lifting the head for 4. Sam Mead then hit a quick fire 16 before one rash shot and getting bowled. Matt Young and Harry Smith kept the innings together and pushed for batting points. Just before the close Young got bowled by Lock for a well made 15. Hythe finished up on 88-5 of their 18 over’s.

Tight bowling was the key on this wicket and holding your catches. Hythe failed to do both and it proved costly as they gave Langley 29 extras in all compared to Langley giving away only 7. Hythe beaten by the better side but will go into next week’s big game with rivals sway looking for an away win to leapfrog them in the table.
