Hampshire League County 2
CADNAM vs HYTHE XI
Saturday 8th May
HYTHE'S FIELDING LETS THEM DOWN IN LEAGUE OPENER

Kev JAMES 52
On a chilly and damp day at Lambs corner - a below par fielding display and losing their top 5 batsman for 64 were the main downfalls for Hythe's disappointing league opener against Cadnam which they lost by 39 runs.
Cadnam were all out for 222 (Richie Froggett taking 3-38) after being 177 for 8 and Hythe made 183 thanks largely to a 81 run 6th wicket partnership between Kev James (52) and Adrian de Jager (51).
Cadnam won the toss and elected to bar first with rain in the air and a damp outfield. Hythe got off to a good start when Richie Froggett bowled A.Mahmood for 5. S.Sahib and aussie S.Waterman put on 36 before Super Trev nipped into action to raise the finger and give Waterman out caught behind to Froggett for 21. Soon the score became 51 for 3 when Page was caught S.Sahib off Froggett for 25. Froggett 3-29 off 7.
Old stager Paul Kerley came to the crease and turned the game in Cadnams favour - though just before drinks though they lost a fourth wicket - Paul Jewer caught by Matt Howe off de Jager for 13. Cadnam 75 for 4 at drinks.
Then came the Jewer charge. He and L.Kerley added 65 for the 5th wicket in 11 overs before L.Kerley was LBW to Saunders for 16. S.Ali made just 4 before being caught by Weall off Saunders. Cadnam 152 for 6 which became 165 for 7 when P.Kerley finally went for 63 caught by James off Saunders for 63. It was then 8 down in the 37th over when Way was ct & bd by Ben Smith for 11. A valuable 38 run partnership between P.Elliott and Matt Maiden took the Cadnam score to 211 before Weall bowled Elliott for 21. Sheath soon followed caught by Weall off de Jager. Maiden finished 25* as Cadnam recorded 222.
In reply Hythe were soon in trouble as their top 5 went for just 64 in 16 overs. The recovery came in the form of a 81 run partnership between Kev James (52) and de Jager (51) who was then caught on the boundary with the score at 145. Page then went for 2 but 26 was added between James and Weall but when James bowled by Sahib at 178 it was game over. Weall (18) and Saunders (0) soon went and Hythe were beaten by 39 runs.
405 runs on an early damp green wicket produced a good game but the Green Caps are better than this performance and will improve. Well done to Cadnam.
