CADNAM vs HYTHE UNDER 17's
Thursday 6th May

Jonjo STOVELL - 24
On a sunny but cold Thursday night, Hythe Under 17s had their first match of the league season down at Cadnam. The pitch itself was very green and so bowling first was the key. Tom Richards the new captain unfortunately lost the toss and was put into bat. It proved to be a good toss to win for Cadnam as Hythe finished on 80-9 from their allotted 18 over’s. In reply Cadnam made Hythe pay for their missed opportunities early on in their innings in the field and made it home without losing a single wicket.
Richards and Stovell opened the batting for Hythe and looked to both be in good form, forcing cheeky runs to the bowlers disgust. In the 3rd over Richards fell due to playing a slower ball to early and forcing it straight to mid-off for 5. This brought Harry Smith to the crease and both himself and Stovell were continuously putting pressure on the fielding side and forcing quick runs between the wickets. They took the score to 40, before both fell in quick succession Harry the first to go being caught for 19 and next ball Stovell being bowled for 24. After that there was an almighty collapse in the middle and lower order. Sam Mead (3), Matt Young (3) and Tom Huxley (3) all came and went which left the lower order to scramble to 80 all out.
Hythe then went out with complete motivation looking to take early wickets and to get into the cadnam middle order early on. But chances were put down and the batsmen took complete advantage and went out worthy winners by 10 wickets. Pick of the Hythe Bowlers Jon Stovell 3.4-0-21-0.
Captain Tom Richards not too down beat says that his team will move on and put that defeat behind them and look to be successful in the next game against Langley Manor at Jones Lane next week.
Cadnam Coach Chris Elliott gave the Hythe boys some encouragement by saying ' we thought that potentially, it was going to be a close match especially when our two opening batsmen used up about 9 lives between them. Put it down to the start of season and judgement of speed of a cricket ball coupled with a soft outfield. Some of our bowling was too short but with the lower bounce, they got away with it. Your boys will definitely give teams a run for their money, it's just that luck and the Forest soft pitch factor that was on our side'.
