POSITIVE START FOR UNDER 11s DESPITE DEFEAT

By The Huxter - May 12 2010
Hythe Under 11's suffered defeat in their opening league game of the season @ Langley Manor. However they came out of the game with lots of positives. Langley Manor batted first scoring 276 for 2 off their 16 overs. Par score is 300 so the young Green Caps did well with wickets a piece for Neal Reid & Tom Knight-Owen. In reply Hythe scored 231-6 thanks largely to apartnership of 34 between Jacob Mould (16) & Neal Reid (17)

Positive Opening Performance by Under 11’s Despite Defeat

Sunday 02-05-2010 saw Hythe and Dibden Under 11’s travel to Langley Manor. The boys turned up bright and early, all excited for the match. The weather put no one off!!! - Not even umpire Jonjo once he saw the bacon baps

Hythe won the toss and elected to bowl. Skipper Neal Reid sorted his bowling order out and Swainston opened the bowling with a successful first over of only 3 runs. Hythes bowling to the opening partnership was fairly good with Langley on 224 of the first 4 overs. Next partnership saw langleys Hampshire academy player, Hatton come into bat, Hythe contained him well with some great fielding, Hatton only scored 5 runs. No fielding opportunities where missed with catches from both Peter and Freddie. There was also some brave fielding from James Millyard stopping two cover drives with his shins. 3rd partnership entered and Langley where on 229. Tight bowling throughout these 4 overs with J.Mould 0-3, L.Faye 0-4, P.Lever 0-4 and Tom K.Owen with a lovely maiden. Langley on 240 and their final batting pair come out and HIT out! Four 4’s were scored and with some tiering bowlers 8 wides were bowled. After an impressive fielding and bowling from the Hythe squad Langley finished on 276 only loosing 2 wickets.

Hythe opened the batting with Swainston and Millyard who coped with the pressure of batting in the first game of the year but also opening. After the first 4 overs hythe finished on 194, a respectfull total with both boys facing the dreaded Hatton bowling his pace. Neal and Jacob enter the field with no one expecting what they were about to do. Neal scoring 17 with 4x4’s and a single and Jacob scoring 21 with 2x6’s and 2x4’s. Mould scoring 16 off Hattons over, his final ball caught Mould out and bowled him, leaving Mould on 16. Hythe were on a very respectable score of 231, with the 3rd pair about to start. Langley put on a good bowling performance taking 8 wickets in the last 8 overs.

Well done to Hythe under 11’s for a great performance on the opening match of the season.

Next match AWAY to Redlynch and Hale, meeting at Jones Lane @ 9:15am.
