Hythe 2's vs Fawley 2's
Hythe 2's Beat Oilers And Just Miss Promotion By 3 Points
 |
 |
| Sean TONGS 42* | Dave GUYMER |
| & a Sore Lip | 32* |
Hythe's 2's impressive end to the Indoor seasons continued with a fine 18 run win over arch rivals Fawley 2's. It was Hythe 2's third win on the bounce which leaped them to a 3rd spot finish in Division 2 - missing out on promotion by 3 points. On the same night - New Milton 1's failure to fulfill their fixture against Lymington meant they are relegated and Hythe 1's keep their Division 1 spot.
Hythe 2's batting first lost the early wickets of skipper Bell (7) and Tom Porter (4), but an important partnership between Sean Tongs and Dave Guymer put the green caps back in control. Both men retired but returned after Russell Moore (3) and Harry Smith (10) were run out. Tongs ended on 42 not out and Guymer 32 not out as Hythe ended their innings 134 for 4.
Hythe got off to a great start in the field when Tom Porter caught Hickman for 0 off the bowling of Smith. A speight of wides (14) from the Hythe bowlers and a good partnership between Atkinson (17) and Doe (25) gave the oilers a chance of victory. But then Hythe produced some fine fielding including an excellent catch by Harry Smith to get rid of Doe which swung the game back Hythe's way - and with 4 Fawley run outs that gave Hythe a win by 18 runs.
Even the mishap of the Guru having his lip cut by Bellie's throw, which hit the metal base of the stumps and rolled up into his face - couldn't dampen another fine team performance from the 2's well lead by Bellie who must take a lot of credit for the sides excellent recovery to the season after losing two of their first three matches.
Bellie would like to thank all the lads for a good season, Jonjo for umpiring and Gary for scoring.
Fawley won the toss and chose to bowl first.
