Hythe 3's vs Hythe 1's
Pace Boys Spare Hythe 1's Blushes
 |
 |
| Wayne EFFENY | Richie FROGGETT |
| Top Scored 43 Not Out | 2-28 OFF 3 |
When New Milton failed to fulfil Hythe's 1's fixture this afternoon in stepped Jonjo's men in the hope of earning bragging rights until the begining of the new season. Hythe 3's battled hard but in a closely fought game the accuracy and pace of Weallo and Froggie proved too much for Hythe 3's in the closing stages.
Hythe 1's won the toss and chose to bat first.
Pagey's 1's elected to bat first but were soon in for a shock in the first over as Tony North had Pagey caught by Tom Richards for 1. Kev James soon followed - run out by Tom Richards for 16 and when Northy caught & bowled indoor guru - Richie Froggett for 7 the 1's were reeling at 39 for 3 in 4 overs.
Jon Weall joined Waye Effeny and the pair steadily re built the innings. After 6 overs they had moved onto 48 for 3 and by 9 over 87 for 3. Both players retired but Effeny returned to finish on 43 not out after hitting 18 off the last over. Jon Weall finished on 25* as Hythe 1's finished on 128 for 3. For Hythe 3's Tony North took 2-30 whilst Kev McCarthy was the most economical 0-25 off 3.
Sam Mead and Matt Young took up the challenge of opening against Rich Froggett but after 12 came off the first 5 balls Matt Young was clean bowled for 3. Tom Richards then fell 3 overs later caught & bowled by Page for 4. Mead and Tony North took the score to 67 for 2 off 6 before Mead retired. Stovell added 15 and North retired on 25 but some tight bowling at the end from Froggett and Weall proved far too good for the 3's and they ended on 110 for 3 some 18 runs short. Froggett ended on 2-28 off 3 whilst Weallo's 0-17 off 3 proved the match winner.
But a good game showing how much the 3's have improved over the weeks - good job it wasn't Bellie's 2's I think they would have turned the 1's over.
