Hythe 3's vs New Milton 2
Eager Hythe 'Run Out' Of Players In Run Chase
 |
| Tony NORTH 24 |
Hythe 3's put in a brave effort against Champions elect - New Milton 2's before going down by 40 runs.
Hythe elected to field first and with 35 coming off the first 2 overs they looked in for a tough hour. But the bowling proved much tighter in recent weeks with less wides conceeded and without the big hitting of the New Milton openers S.Vibert & L.Miller - Hythe would have been facing a much lesser total.
Ben Smith drafted in for Sam Mead - was the pick of the Hythe bowlers going for just 22 off his 3 overs as New Milton finished on 131 for 3.
Push and run seemed to be the message from skipper Jonjo Stovell as Hythe started their run chase. All the lads adhered the the skippers advise BUT sadly to their own downfalls. First Tom Richards who was run out for a duck. ' Obstructed by the bowler said Tom' . Jonjo Stovell (12) and Matt Young then found the corners impressively and what New Milton did well with the big hitting Hythe were just as impressive with their 3's. Unfortunately though just when it looked like Hythe were keeping up with the run rate - panic set in.
First Stovell was run out and then the impressive Matt Young (18) unfortunately was run out after North's shot took a bounce off the wall back towards the stumps giving Matt no chance. Ben Smith and Kev McCarthy were then both run out in quick succession backing up and it was left to Tony North to take the game to New Milton before he was run out himself for 24. Hythe all out in just 8.5 overs for 91.
Had Hythe kept wickets in tact - it would have been interesting especially with Taylor & Locke bowled out - However it was a good effort though against an experienced New Milton side that will comfortably win this league.
