Sunday 13th September
OT's & ROMSEY vs HYTHE XI
Played at Romsey Sports Centre
HYTHE TAUGHT A LESSON BY THE ROMSEY ACADEMY
 |
| Mike EDWARDS |
| 27 & 2-34 off 8 |
Sunday's fixture saw the Green Caps travel to Southern League club side OT'S & Romsey and pitt their witts against a side made up with mostly lads from the Romsey Academy. Drop catches and poor fielding helped the homeside to 184 all out off 39.4 overs. For Hythe skipper James Page (3-46) and Tom Barge (3-43) took three wickets each whilst Mike Edwards 2-23 off 8 and Harry Smith 1-19 off 6 were the most economical.
Hythe in reply never got going and were bowled out for a dismal 93 in the 31st over. Mike Edwards batting at 7 top scored with 27.
So a disappointing result for Hythe but a good lesson learned. Whilst we think our young lads are coming on well - its good to come to a place like this and learn from a club thats doing it even better. As Mike Tucker the Romsey's Academy Director mentioned - 'most of his side he put out today - have been playing Senior Sunday Cricket since the age of 13. We also play a side in the Border League as a Academy side. Forget bowling machines and nets, thats the only place to learn - out in the middle. '
