HYTHE XI vs LANGSTONE
Played at Exbury
PEACEFUL SETTING - TAME DRAW
![]() |
| Mr.Cool - BARGEY |
| 3 More Wkts - 3-48 |
Played at the peaceful setting of Exbury - Hythe and Langstone played out a tame 'timed game' draw with the batsman dominating the game. The Pompey visitors set Hythe 230 to win in 2 hours - helped it has to be said by some poor bowling and fielding by the green caps. In reply Hythe made 166 for 6 with Tongs top scoring on 49.
Hythe bowled 45 overs - Langstone 37 proving had it been a 40 over game then it could have been an interesting game.
Hythe won the toss and Pagey elected to field first on a pleasant afternoon out in the sticks. Electing to start with a new ball the only one Paghey could fined was a colts ball which then proceeded to be the bowlers exceuse for the next 10 overs why the ball was goping down the leg side.
The Langstone openers brought up 38-0 after the first 10 overs. 13 year old Josh Mead doing a decent job with the ball 0-19 off 4. That brought Bargey into the game but after his first over went for 1 - the next 3 went for 20 which resulted in Pagey making a third bowling change with less than an hour gone. The fielding didn't help the bowlers as The Huxter and Jonjo looked like they were chasing moles rather than the ball in the outfield. At 20 overs the visiotrs had moved onto 85 for 0 and the Hythe banter was as peaceful as the setting.
Spin king Harry Smith then come on to quiet things down and with Chiverton at the other end their first 10 overs went for just 19. Smith then claimed the first wicket courtesy of Chiverton in the slips. Wellington out for 42. He then bowled Middleton for 1 and could have had another but for the Juggling Huxter. Chiverton's 10 overs went for 29 and Smith was 2-26 off 9 until he pestered Pagey for two more overs which went for 21. Page returned to the fold and after two overs of pace - turned to spin and with his first ball of spin had skipper Barnard very well caught by birthday boy Smith for 48. Langstone 139 for 3. Bargey now fully awake then returned to sanp up 3 more wickets for the season. First he Bowled Brown for 13, followed by Brydon for 44 (another catch for Harry Smith). Northy then finally caught one - Cooper out for 0 off the bowling of Barge. The final wicket to fall went to Josh Mead bowling Stroud for 4. Langstone finishing on 229 for 7 after 46 overs.
Hythe opened with Tongs and Stovell and the pair batted sensibly against some tidy bowling from Boyes and Beck. The pair brought up the 50 in 12 overs before Stovell was finally out in the 14th over caught for 17. At drinks Hythe were 64 for 1 still needing 6 an over to win. Northy then tweaked his hamstring which prevented The Guru from running his 3's and that was when we knew Hythe would settle for a draw. Tongs finally went one short of another fifty - caught in the slips after a very good ball from Mafsin. North soon followed for 16 and Hythe with 10 overs to go were 104 for 3.
Poor old Tom Huxley's day got worse when he was out for a duck, then Harry Smith was caught for 6. Sam Mead showed some good shots before being 5th person out with 6 overs to go Hythe were 139 for 6. Thankfully skipper James Page 28* and Tom Richards 6* made sure there were no more casualties and draw was the result.
Well done to the Langstone guys for making the extended trip to Exbury and for playing the game in great spirirt.
