HYTHE XI vs GOODWOOD (Sussex)

TIBBLES TON SETS UP 9 WICKET WIN FOR GREEN CAPS

Tom PORTER	Sean TONGS
107 inc 10 fours & 6 sixes	83* inc 12 fours

Finally a long awaited midweek win for the Green Caps - yet what did you expect with Northy back at the helm. Chasing 201 to win a 186 opening partnership between Tom Porter 107 and Sean Tongs 83* in just 23 overs set Hythe up for a nine wicket win. It was Porters maiden century which could have been completely different had he not been dropped twice in the first over with dollies. In the same over Tongs was also dropped.

Earlier a 16 over opening bowling partnership between Rob Saunders 8-0-34-1 and Ben Smith 8-1-30-1 had the tourists in all sorts of trouble.

Tony North skippered the Hythe side and as everyone predicted (because they were already changed) the tourists batted first. Both Rob Saunders and Ben Smith bowling seam, had the visitors in trouble early on. Yet it took till the 11th over for Hythe to get the first wicket thanks to a great throw in from Jonjo Stovell. Two overs later and the tourists were 44 for 2 - Burgess bowled by Saunders for 3. That then became 50 for 3 when Smith bowled Murray for 13.

At the end of the Saunders/ Smith spell of 16 overs, Goodwood were 66 for 3. Blackwell replaced Saunders with Chiverton replacing Ben Smith. At 83 in the 19th over Blackwell had Miller caught by Porter for 22. 3 runs later Chiverton had Clifton well caught by Matt Young at point for 0. 44 runs were then added before Goodwood lost their 6th wicket when Bears was bowled by Blackwell for 41 after a short break for a shower. 135 for 6 which then became 7 as in the same over Blackwell bowled Mould for 0. Northy taking the plaudits for allowing Lukey to borrow his spikes. Chiverton then bowled Payne for 5 and Stovell bowled the big wicket of Miles for 46. The last pair then added another 11 to take the final score to 200 for 9.

Northy rung the changes in the batting order - opening with experience in the form of Porter and Tongs. In an amazuing first over Tibbles was dropped twice with the easiest of catches, then The Guru had the same let off. The first 5 overs the went for 52 and 10 - 90 as Tom Porter smashed his way to a quick fire 50 inc 6x4's and 3x6's. The Guru was in good nick too with some lovely cuts which saw the Hythe pair take the score to 145 for 0 off only 15 overs. Tongs brought up his fifty and then at 177 Porter brought up his first ever Hythe Ton - inc 10x4's and 6x6's. But soon after he was caught off the bowling of Mould for 107.- Hythe 186 for 1 off 22 overs.

Tony North joned Tongs and hit the winning shot to give Hythe a 9 wicket win and revenge for last seasons defeat. The Guru finishing on 83 * - his fourth half century in 7 days.
