Tongs 61* Leads To Hythe To Good Win Over Tytherley

Hythe came away from East Tytherley with 23 precious points and a valuable win considering how many first teamers were unavailable through holidays and injury. Star of the show 'The Guru' Sean Tongs who for the second week running showed what the first team had been missing over the past couple of years scoring 61*. With the ball Jon Weall starred with 3-24 in an opening spell which dismissed key batsman Will Edwards and D.Badbidge

East Tytherley won the toss and elected to bat first on a very hard wicket. Hythe opened with Weall and Saunders in the absence of Richie Froggett and on a small ground the homeside got off to a solid start scoring 26 off the first 17 balls. But Weall did get a breakthrough at the end of the third over - bowling Bround for 18.

In the 7th over with the score on 36 for 1 he struck again - bowling the prolific Will Edwards for 0. Two overs later he was at it again getting the over confident Badbidge caught behind by Kev James for 23. Rob Saunders finished his first 6 over spell on 0-36 and Weall 7 overs 3-24.

That brought a double change with skipper Rob James electing Chalky White and rooky Russell Moore over the experienced Mike Edwards. It worked though as White in his 2nd over had Smith LBW for 9. Next over and East Tytherley were 67 for 5 when Moore had G.Harris very well caught by Rob James for 15. Harris scored 549 runs at 49 last season so it was a big wicket for the Green Caps. Moore finished his 4 over spell 1-21 before Edwards was brought into the attack. At drinks the homeside had moved onto 101 for 5 with skipper Kersey and Walker going well. They moved the score even further to 130 in the 28th before Hythe removed Kersey with a well caught catch by Sean Tongs off White for 35. Tytherley then lost their last 4 wickets for 8 runs finishing on 155 all out. Mike Edwards finishing on 3-34 off his 7.3 overs. Rob Saunders too got in on the act 1-47. A good team effort by Hythe in the field.

After a lovely tea Hythe opening with the Edwards, Robbie James partnership frustrated the homeside with a similar start which involved some cracking shots but also some good nicks. The pair brought up 50 in just 8 overs but at 52 James finally fell to Edwards for 18. Two wickets then fell at 60 - Mike Edwards was out LBW to Kersey for 31 and James Page gloved Kersey and sportingly walked for 0. Sean Tongs looked in good touch and with Steve Weall added 31 in 8 overs before Weall fell bowled by Waker for 11. Hythe 91 for 3 off 20.

Kev James came to the crease to support Tongs and thats exactly what he did - frustrating the life out of the home side for 5 despite adding 50 with Tongs. When he was finally out Hythe were 141 for 5 with 8 overs to go needing 15. Jon Weall at an all time high of 7 in the order waisted no time in hitting a four and finished on 11 not out. Hythe won by 5 wickets with 5 overs to go. Tongs finishing on 61 not out inc 9x4's.

Two wins in succession for the Green Caps and a win next week could see them end mid table in what has been a frustrating season with injuries.
