HYTHE SUNDAY XI vs BEDHAMPTON
Sunday 16th August
Hythe Poor For Top Sunday Fixture
Hythe's annual fixture against County 1 club side Bedhampton is arguably the top Sunday fixture of the season which both sides look forward to. But a depleted Hythe side - let down by late drop outs were unfortunately no match for the Pompey side this year - losing by 113 runs.
Bedhampton batted first against a depleted bowling attack which didn't help with the let down by Rob Saunders.
The visitors opening pair of S.Gardner and G.Hoolihan put on 49 before Barge claimed the first wicket having Hoolithan caught behind by Matt Young for 30. Richie Froggett then came on first change and picked up the wickets of Clarke 14, Donogan 0 and Thomas 0 all clean bowled.- Bedhampton 91 for 4.
S.Gardner brought up his fifty and then saw Froggett claim his forth wicket and 10th for the weekend. But a 89 run partnership for the 6th wicket between Gardiner and T.Fenn put Bedhampton firmly in control. Fenn finally went caught by Mills off the expensive Page for 43, but after S.Gardner brought up his maiden century and with A.Gardner 16* added a further unbeaten 54 to leave the visitors 247 for 6 at tea. S.Gardner finishing on an excellent 128* inc 19x4's and one six.
Hythe's response got off to the worst start losing both Zac Millar 0 and Andy Woods 5 in the first 5 overs. The recovery came thanks to skipper James Page and Sean Tongs who added 42 in 10 overs before Page was out for 34. The middle order then proved not good enough as Bowman 6, Mills 1, and Young 7 all came and went. Hythe 93 for 5 after 30 overs.
Richie Froggett hit a boundary hitting 32* inc 6x4's and a six but ran out of partners as the rest collaspsed Tongs 46, Mead 0, Barge 0 and Moore 2. Hythe 136 all out and falling to an embarrasing 113 run defeat.
