HYTHE XI vs VALLEY PARK
Thursday 14th August
Skipper Fired After Lame Run Chase Ends In Defeat
 |
| WOODSY 'Nesbitt' 1st Game as Skipper & Last |
Hythe's midweek friendly arranged by Woodsy was supposed to be an easy stroll leading into the weekends crucial games. 'Are they very strong Woodsy' he replied ' No they just play friendlies and are a bunch of guys I use to work with' - Didn't mention the fact that 3 guys played for Hursley Park.
Yet again Hythe failed to chase down a moderate total and ended up second best.
After a gentlemans agreement between skippers Valley Park batted first on a pleasant evening at Jones Lane in this 18 over a side game. Woodsy opened with the Second XI Express bowling down the hill and Under 17 player Luke Blackwell who played so well against Fawley at the weekend. At 19 the novice (who was showing the express how to bowl at the wickets) took the first wicket thanks to probably the catch of the season by Zac Millar ( running catch over his shoulder). Tom Richards then got in on the act - bowling Steve Miller for 12 and then having G.Mann caught by Blackwell for 1.
Matt Young (playing for the opposition only because he can't use a telephone to make himself available) than started to hit the boundaries. 12 year old Ali Bryers came on and picked up two wickets in two balls inc Matt Young caught by Moore. Valley Park 60 for 5 off 11.
Richards then picked up his third wicket when bowled Nichoson for 1 but J.Murray 9* and M.Moreton 34* then had a late flurry to set the green caps 114 to win. Pick of the Hythe bowlers Tom Richards 3-16 off 3 whilst young Ali Bryers took 2-27 off 4.
Confident of an easy chase the skipper Woodsy held back his main batsman and opened with Jonjo Stovell and Tom Huxley. The speed of Hythe's 'Ginger Bolt' was too much for the Huxter and he was run out for 2. The Ginger Bolt and Zac Millar then added 30 before the Ginger Bolt was out for 15. With the skies darkening Punchey came to the crease only to be out in the 9th over for 2 - Hythe 46 for 3 at the half way stage. Tom Richards added a quick 11 as Zac was still in holiday mode. With 51 now needed off 5 over Tom Porter tried his upmost to have a go but found the Vally Park bowling difficult to get away.
Porter made 19 before he was caught off the first ball of the final over. Crouchey followed next ball which brought in the skipper to the crease. 'Whats a crease says Woodsy' as he steps out of it only to be run out by the wicket keeper. Two balls left and Guru hits 8 with everyone thinking where's he been. Hythe lose by 10 runs - well done to Valley Park in a good game played in very good spirit and Zac Millar who finished on 26 not out.
