HYTHE XI vs HATFIELD CRUSADERS (Herts)

Rain Ruins Hythe Run Chase

Woodsy Calf Injury

‘’An extremely wet afternoon welcomed the Hatfield Crusaders from Hertfordshire to Jones lane. Corporal Saunders took charge for the third time in a week and Hythe were put into the field first.

Hythe opened the bowling with Saunders up the hill and Stovell (Jonjo) down the hill. Just as the first over was being bowled the rain started to fall and this was very much a permanent fixture for virtually the whole of the crusaders innings. Hythe toiled with the conditions for the first 17 overs until a run out by Powell was taken off his own bowling. Next ball Powell cleaned up Paul’s stumps and Hythe were into the game.

Quinnell bowled a great spell of 5 overs, 1 maiden, for 19 runs in very difficult conditions. Further wickets fell to Last, Saunders and Stovell to leave the visitors 232 for 7 off 35 overs at tea.

Following a pitch inspection by Sean (the Guru) and the two captains - the game was called off due to further rain during the tea interval .’’ More injury news for the Green Caps as Tom Porter drove off with what looks like a broken finger and Andrew Woods a calf strain to which he blames the skipper for after fielding him fine leg to fine leg all afternoon.
