HYTHE XI vs MASSEY FURGUSON JAGUAR CC (Warwickshire)
Hythe XI Humbled In Massive Defeat Against Strong Touring Side
 |
| Paul QUINNELL |
| 26 on his return |
Once a year with touring sides your always likely to come up with a mis match and this was it as a youthful Hythe XI was well beaten by Warwickshire Division 2 side Massey Furguson Jaguar by 183 runs. Two visiting batsmen made centuries to set up a huge win for Jaguar cars C.C in a game of very few highlights for the Hythe players.
A strong touring side from the midlands visited Jones’ Lane and put their marker down on a young Hythe squad. With only captain Rob Saunders appearing from the first team Hythe were seriously under strength as Jaguar were put into bat.
Initially Hythe started well with Rob Saunders and Russell Moore opening the bowling when there was a run out in the second over and Moore picked up the third batsmen for a duck. However, that’s as good as it got for the Green caps as R. Singh (106) and F. Gultaj (140*) got into their stride and pummelled the Hythe attack all round the field. Although Stovell and McCarthy picked up a wicket apiece the visitors finished on 294-5.
In reply Jaguar opened up with their quick swing bowler who picked up Tom Porter first ball of the innings. After eight balls Harry Smith was also dismissed and very quickly after that it was 16-5 and Hythe were looking down the barrel at a 200+ run defeat.
Were it not for some weak change bowling that Paul Quinnel (26) and Matt Young (23*) took advantage of, Hythe would not have made it to the 111 that they did. The two sides were in completely different leagues and it gave the Hythe team very little to feel good about.
