Aussie Ringer The Difference As Fawley Level Twenty20 Series 1-1

On a bitterly miserable night at Holbury Fawley beat Hythe by 33 runs in the second of two annual Twenty20's to level the series 1-1. The Oilers were thankful for 90* from aussie ringer Matt Harrival who smashed the ball all over the park including 26 off Wayne Effeny's last over.

Harrival who is spending a week with Fawley's aussie Percy, is playing his cricket down in Devon for Braunton.

Skipper Mike Bowman lost the toss and Fawley elected to bat first as the drizzle started to fall with both skippers agreeing a 16 over game because of light. Bowman opened the bowling with Froggett and Edwards and after a first ball wide Froggett had K.Earl well caught by Mike Bowman in the slips for 0. Edwards too got a wicket in his first over when Fawley aussie Anthony Percy skied the ball to Mills for a well taken catch. Fawley 8 for 2.

That brought the ringer to the crease to join McIllhennney and the pair added 37 for the 3rd wicket before McIllheney was excellently caught on the boundary by Luke Mills supporting his new cap. 44 for 3 off 6. Dave Streather was next in. Mike Edwards final over went for 15 as the aussie started to open up. The score moved onto 83 in the 10th over before Streather was next out for 25 caught behind by Kev James off Rob Saunders who Streather smashed for 2 sixes in the previous overs. Harrival brought up his fifty and went onto score 90* in a unbeaten 63 run partnership with Andy Parrett 12* in just 6 overs as the Oilers finished on 146 for 4 off 16 overs. Harrival's innings included 13x4's & a six including 24 off Effenys one and only over. What a way to treat a Hythe Legend.

Almost dark - Hythe went out to bat with Mike Edwards and Robbie James with neither looking up for it and both back in the shed within 3 overs. As always 'play in all weather' Tongs and Richie Froggett dug in and took the score to 42 off 7 before Froggett was out bowled by Irvine for 13. Wayne Effeny 10 and Kev James 5 came and went as the showers got heavier but it didn't worry the guru who went onto scorer 40 before being run out in the 13th over. The result was never in doubt but Fonzy enjoyed smashing 2 fours off of aussie Percy whilst Punchey ran a five.

Hythe finished on 113 for 6 -a 33 run defeat and Fawley square the series 1-1.
