LANGLEY MANOR vs HYTHE 1st XI

Saturday 24th July

MORE MISERY FOR FIRSTS AS THEY'RE BEATEN @ LANGLEY & LOSE HOWE FOR THE RERST OF THE SEASON

Hythe were soundly beaten at Knellers Lane this afternoon in what turned out to be another below performance by the Green Caps. Things were made worse losing Matt Howe early in the game to a broken wrist. He unfortunately now misses the rest of the season and joins Wright, Dixon and Daniels on the wounded list.

Langley Manor made 260 for 8 off their 45 overs with Mike Edwards Hythe's best bowler 3-29 off 10. Hythe in reply were 193 for 8 at the close with skipper Rob James 71 the only real contribution.

Matt Howe - Out For Season Mike Edwards 29 & 3-29

Robbie James again won the toss and elected to field first after changing his mind on the way to the crease to toss up. Hythe got off to the perfect start with two men back in the pavilion after just 6 overs. Jon Weall first bowled Jerram 5 and then had Holloway caught behind by Kev James for 10.

15 year old Watteridge was then joined by Ayub and the pair started to build the home sides innings. After 10 overs they were 46 for 2 and at 17 - 62 for 2. Harry Smith uncharacteristically then dropped Ayub on 21 which proved to be costly. In the 18th over though Hythe fought back when Watteridge was judged L.B.W by Mike Edwards for 15. The big hitting Renders joined Ayub and they put on 63 for the 4th wicket when Ayub was L.B.W by Edwards for 67. 28th over Langley 127 for 4. Hythe then got a double breakthrough with the score on 132. Firstly Edwards had Renders well caught by Robbie James for 28 and John Weal bowled Taylor for 1. Hythe with their tails up and Langley 132 for 6 off 30 overs.Trouble then came when Hythe were reduced to 10 men because of the injury to Matt Howe - they found it hard to cover the gaps in the field as runs became more easily especially off the spin of Chalky White whose first 4 overs went for 28.

Edwards finished his spell 3-29 off 10 a fine effort which meant James turned back to his front men without any luck. Spencer 53 and Noble 38 put on 87 in just 10 overs to take the home side past 200. At 219 Noble was bowled by Weall. Spencer and skipper Brown then took the score to 243 with two overs to go before and Spencer was bowled by Saunders. Langley Manor added 17 more to finish on 260 for 8.

Hythe got off to a good reply through Rob James and Mike Edwards before in the 12th over Edwards was bowled by S.Peters for 29 with the score on 54. Harry Smith drafted into the number 3 spot was then bowled by the same bowler stepping back for 2. Hythe 96 for 2 after 21.

Richie Froggett became S.Peters third wicket when he was caught by Jerram for 5 and at 121 Kev James was judged L.B.W for 6. Skipper Rob James reached his fifty and put on a 44-5th wicket partnership with James Page 18, before he became S.Peters 4th wicket. Never seen a guy get 4 wickets and bowl so many down the leg side.

At 169 and 8 overs to go Robbie James was bowled by Brown for a fine 71 inc 7x4's. With 200 still the aim Hythe's tail was way to big and we finished on 193 for 8 despite J.Weal 12. Hythe had been beaten by 67 runs slipping them back down the table to 14th just two places off the relegation zone.
