FROGGETT SETS UP WIN AND 18 PRECIOUS POINTS.

Richie Froggett 2-20 & 75 Inc 12x4's & 2x6's

Hythe 1st XI's secured a precious win and 18 valuable points on Saturday as they beat Hungerford by 2 Wkts at Jones Lane. Start of the show - once again all rounder Richie Froggett who scored 75 including 12x4's & 2x6's. Hythe put Hungerford into bat first and with the team superbly lead by Robbie James in the field restricted the visitors to 136 for 6 off 45 overs. After a 15 minute break for rain Hythe's target then become 133 off 42 overs. After losing early wickets Hythe were 47 for 3 but not for the first time this season Froggett with the bat saw them home.

Hungerford without three of their regulars were put into bat on a damp wicket after heavy rain the previous day. M.Westbrook and D.Bull got them off to a slow but steady start with just 18 coming off the first 11 overs from Grobler and Weall. Richie Froggett then replaced Grobler 0-11 off 5 and with his 2nd ball had Bull caught by skipper Robbie James for 13 off Richie Froggett.

Rob Saunders replaced Jon Weall 0-7 off 6 and after having 8 hit off his first over settled down to put more pressure on the visiting batsman. At 36 off 19 overs Hungerford lost their 2nd wicket - M.Westbrook well caught by Hythe's star fielder James Page for 17. At drinks Hungerford had crawled onto 47 for 2 thanks to some good work by Froggett 1-9 off 5 and Saunders 1-15 off 5.

In the 25th over Hythe claimed another wicket when P.Westbrook was again well caught by Page off Saunders. 3 overs later and it was 55 for 4 as S.Annetts was caught by Kev James off Froggett for 4. Hythe looked well in control but aussie M.Watterson and D.Hancock added 73 for the 5th wicket in 16 overs before Hancock was out for 28 in the 44th over - caught by Nardus Grobler off Mike Edwards. In the final over Hythe then claimed the wicket of Watterson for 45 who was bowled by Jon Weall. Final score 136 for 6 with Riche Froggett 2-20 off 10 the pick of the bowlers who all did a good job for the Green Caps.

Just after tea we had a 15 minute interval for rain which resulted in Hythe's target being reduced to 132 off 42 overs. Hythe had already lost skipper Rob James who was out for caught for 3. Matt Howe went for 4 and Hythe were once again in a pickle at 13 for 2. Rich Froggett joined Mike Edwards and added 34 before Edwards was out caught off Ponsford for 13. At the 15 over stage Hythe were 47 for 3. In the next 5 overs Froggett and Grobler 5 added 37 thanks largely to the boundary hitting of 'The Coach'.

Grobler went for 5 @ 84 but Froggett and Kev James 6 then added 34 to take Hythe within a grasp of victory. But James went in the 25th over followed by Page next ball 118 for 6. That then became 122 for 7 when Last was run out for 0 and a little panic had set in - but Froggett was still at the other end in fine form. Sadly though he couldn't see it through to the end and was out for 75 with Hyuthe needing just one to win. Froggett's innings included 12x4's and 2x6's. Next ball Chalky White guided through the slips for 1 and Hythe were home - messy but 18 points.
