NEW FOREST UNDER 17 LEAGUE

HYTHE UNDER 17's vs BRANSGORE

Thursday 16th July

Century Partnership All In Vain As Rain Saves Bransgore

Harry SMITH 50*	Matt YOUNG 52*
Unbeaten 110 Run Opening Partnership

A superb unbeaten opening partnership if 110 between Matt Young and Harry Smith was all in vain as the rain came between innings to prevent Hythe of pulling off a shock win over 4th placed Bransgore. Hythe amassed 157 for 1 off their 18 overs including 6x6's.

With rain forcasted the game started early with Hythe winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Hythe opened with Under 15 pair Matt Young and Harry Smith and the Green caps got off to the perfect start when Young smashed a four off the very first ball of the game. Harry hit his first boundary off his second ball and the scene was set for Hythe to have a real go in their last league innings of the summer. At 5 overs Hythe had moved onto 21 for 0 and at the half way stage (9 overs) 58 for 0. Matt Young then smashed a six into Dashies back garden then Harry (not to be outdone) then did the same.

Matt Young then brought up his fifty and retired 52* inc 5x4's 2x6's. Damon Lord came to the crease but 6 balls later became Bransgore's first wicket 0. Harry Smith then brought up his fifty 50* inc 5x4's and 2x6's. With only a few overs to go Sam Mead 20* and Luke Blackwell 14* added 30 to take Hythe's final score to 157 for 1. Mead's 20 included 4x4's and a 6. Luke Blackwell's 14 - 1x6.

As the players came off the showers got heavier and the Bransgore senior contingent considered it too dangerous to carry on which disappointed Hythe. As it was 5 minutes later the heavens opened and their decision was justified.

So no points but the Under 17 season ends with them finishing 9th in the league and out of the bottom two. With such a young side they would have settled for that at the begining of the year.
