Three Wins In Four For The Under 11’s

The weather nearly took its toll on this fixture, heavy rain falling just before 10am. The skies cleared and skipper for the day Ali Bryers won the toss, electing to bat first. Bryers and Gilbert opened the batting, Bryers striking a boundary off the first ball of the innings. Archie Gilbert struck three boundaries and the pair also managed to run two on a couple of occasions. Neal Reid and Brandon Keates then came up against some steady bowling, runs harder to come by, but defended their stumps stoutly. The third pair was Matt Bennett and Ben Fenton, both batting with far greater confidence than earlier in the season. Matt hit two lovely boundaries and Ben played a variety of sweet strokes, running between the wickets beautifully. An unfortunate run out going for a second run that was never there halted progress temporarily, but runs were scored off every ball in their final over. Sam Kelly and Tom Copley then came to the crease, Kelly dominating the strike and flayed the bowling to all areas, five boundaries in his 30 not out from 19 balls.

A confident Hythe team took to the field, Gilbert and Kelly both picking up wickets in their first overs. A couple of run outs also gave the boys confidence, and Pylewell were 188 for 4 after their first pair. Confident of victory, it was a chance for the coach to give other bowlers the opportunity to show what they were made of. Neal Reid took his chance with three tidy overs, including a double wicket maiden (one clean bowled the other a fantastic catch by Sam Kelly). Brandon Keates and Matt Bennett also got in on the act with tidy spells of bowling. Ben Fenton bowled his best over of the season, a maiden that his father still can’t believe did not include a wicket. Tom Copley continued his dramatic recent improvement behind the stumps, keeping tidily and preventing a large number of byes. Captain Ali Bryers finished off the Pylewell innings with another clean bowled in the final over to add to an earlier wicket, caught well by Matt Bennett.

In summary a fantastic display by all the boys, runs scored quickly, far fewer wides / no balls and decisive fielding. With confidence and self-belief at an all-time high we look forward to Lymington B on Sunday in our final game of the season at Noadswood. Three wins in a week!!!
