Under 11's Get Over Cup Defeat And Beat Young Beaulieu Side Comfortably
A re-arranged fixture following rain earlier in the season saw the Under 11s meet Beaulieu in their first season of Under 11’s cricket. Hythe were asked to bowl first after captain Sam Kelly lost the toss. Beaulieu’s opening pair were subjected to double wicket maidens by Gilbert (3-6) in the first over and Bryers (3-7) in the last over with a further clean bowled in each of their intermediate overs by Bryers and Gilbert. Their final over saw a spectacular first catch of the season by Molyneux. The openers’ loss of six wickets saw Beaulieu fighting from behind. Runs off the bat were proving hard to come by and although supplemented by wides, the loss of further wickets from a run out by Gilbert from cover in the eighth over and a clean bowled by Kelly (1-17) in the ninth, kept the score in the negative until the 13th over. Low scoring overs from Molyneux, Bennett and Fenton brought Beaulieu’s to a close on 218 for 8.
Chasing an achievable target and with instructions to defend their wickets, Bryers and Gilbert opened Hythe’s innings positively with Gilbert blasting 6 boundaries in their four over spell. Ladbury and Molyneux continued to push the score up with decisive calling allowing plenty of single runs. Kelly pulled a couple of boundaries with Copley hitting the first 6 of the Under 11s’ season. Finally Fenton and Bennett came to the crease scoring steadily with a series of single runs, pushing the total over the elusive 300 runs. All partnerships contributed positively to close Hythe’s innings at 301 without loss.
Victorious in two out of their last three games, the Under 11s face their penultimate league game against Pylewell Park this weekend with well-deserved confidence.
