HYTHE'S 4th DEVON TOUR
Sun 5th - Thu 10th July
Hythe's 4th Devon Tour ended with a 2 Wins -1 Loss - 1 Match Abandoned and 1 Rained Off
Sun 5th July - Vs IPPLEPEN
Match Abandoned at Tea
Hythe's tour once again started at the lovely ground of Ipplepen on the outskirts of Torquay. Weallo was nominated as captain as the Chairman, and Mike entertained at the bar. The home side deserve credit for starting with a 35 over game in mind despite heavy showers.
Hythe batted first and lost Tom Porter in the first over. Things didn't get much better throughout the innings as the players came off four times for showers and then the green caps were shot out for just 117 in the 27th over. Luke Mills top scored with 31 (shame an abandoned game doesn't reflect in the averages) and Jon Weall 21 - no one else reached double figures. Ipplepen fielded and bowled well - not surprising they are unbeaten so far this year on a Sunday
After an excellent tea the rain came and Hythe's blushes were saved. If any of the Ipplepen lads get to read this - thanks for the hospitality and thanks to the young barman who looked after Mr.Bowman so well.

Monday 6th July - Vs IVYBRIDGE
It's Defeat In The Rain @ Ivybridge
Full credit to the Ivybridge lads for going ahead with this game as heavy showers fell all morning in Torquay. A delayed start meant a 35 over game - Hythe won the toss and Woody skipper for the day elected to bat first despite the resting first teamers of Rob James, Matty Howe & James Page.
Conditions were very difficult at first for both sides and the ball certainly wasn't easy for the Hythe openers to get away. Hythe were soon in trouble at 43 for 4 and 80 for 6 but Tom Porter 46 and Richard Last 55* enabled Hythe to set a decent total of 175 all out.
Ivybridge though had different ideas and with ringer P.Deal opening the batting he and A.Tookey 35 put on 68 for the first wicket. Weallo then put Hythe back in the game with three wickets in his final over (3-24). With Starkey and Dahmer running their asses off in the field to cover for senior players - it was then the surprise package of Richie Bunce bowling off spin (2-25 off 7) and Richard Last (1-37 off 7) that put the barkes on the Ivybridge reply. The home side ralleyed once again through Deal 51, and D.Eadie 15. J.Bullock 21* then saw the home side home by 3 wkts with 6 balls to spare.

Tuesday 7th July - PAIGNTON
Match Rained Off
Tuesdays game at Paignton was called off at 11am after early morning rain. The disappionting thing was with a stiff breeze and afternoon sun - was it called off to early especially as Torquay played after a delay til 4pm. But a pike in the pub Monday night did say that they wouldn't play at Paignton on the Tuesday because of the damp conditions.
Still it gave everyone more time for poker and getting ready for the fancy dress.
Wednesday 8th July - CORNWOOD
Zorro's Unbeaten Ton & Howe's 86* Set Up Good Win
Wednesdays game took the green caps west to 'A' Division Club Cornwood. Greeted by a lovely setting with sloping pitch skipper of the day - Kev James won the toss and elected to bat first.
On a good wicket Hythe recorded the highest total on the pitch this season so far scoring 245 for 3 off their 40 overs. Mike Bowman 32 and Rob James shared an opening stand of 99 in 20 overs. Then James reached his 100 before sportingly retiring to give someone else a bat. James ton included 16x4's & 1x6. Matt Howe then reached his fifty and went onto score 86* incuding 12x 4's.
Hythe got off to a good start in the field when Jon Weall bowled D.Deal for 1. However a 4th wicket stand of 119 between P.Deal and A.Goodcliffe gave the home side an outside chance. Goodcliffe's excellent 71 included 8x4's and 2x6 before he was caught by Weall off Richie Froggett. and when Fonzy Last bowled P.Deal for 83 Hythe were home and dry.The last 4 wickets falling for just 15 runs.
A good game and thanks to Cornwood for looking after us so well - just the one blip - a shame that Mr.Pertterbridge took his dismissal so badly.

Thursday 9th July - MILTON ABBAS (Dorset)
Starkey Completes Last Ball Win & Complete Winning Tour
With the late cancellation of the Bovey Tracey fixture - the tour was complete again thanks to the offer from Milton Abbas for a Twenty20 on the way back through Dorset. In a field set on the outskirts of the village we were greeted by a strong breeze and cold cnditions. Captain for the fianl game Dahmer - Pete Stevens won the toss and elected to bat first - only to come back a few moments later and say were fielding because only 5 of the oppo had arrived.
By the start the oppo had 15 but after losing an early wicket (Mark Howe caught Mills off Matt Howe 2) the 2nd wicket pair put on 89 in 13 overs to set up a late onslaught from the home side. A.Smith made 59 inc 9x4's and 2x6's and C.Chasty 34 inc 1x4 and 1x6. But Punchey Mills had different ideas taking 3-9 off his 3 overs and Milton Abbas finished on 122 for 6 off their 20.
The green caps opened with the skipper and Chalky White and the pair put on 17 before Stevens was caught for 5. White went for 14 and Hythe at the half way stage were 61 for 2. Tom Porter top scored with 37 inc 2x6's and a four and when the 5t wicket went down at 96 Hythe still needed 27 off 4 overs. Matt Stark joined Kev James knowing a defeat and he was walking home. 11 came off the next over and 6 off the 18th - Hythe now needing 13 off 2 overs. Kev playing in his gardening shoes had a let off when Buncey in his blus brothers shades missed a run out.
5 needed off the final over and when the scores were level with one ball to go - it was Starkey who ran like the clappers to to get home and seal the win. Starkey finishing 19* and Kev James 21*.
Well done to Milton Abbas who made a real game of it. The club only reformed a few seasons ago and don't play league cricket - just every other Sunday. They made us work real hard for the win and were very welcoming with food and drinks.
