HYTHE SUNDAY XI vs I.B.M SOUTH HANTS

Sunday 28th June

Tailenders Save I.B.M's Unbeaten Record

Zac MILLAR - Youngest Player To Score a Senior Fifty

Hythe played their first time game of the season with I.B.M keen to protect their unbeaten record. The visitors asked Hythe to bat first and Sean Tongs (97) and thirteen year old Zac Millar (55) shared a 144 third wicket partnership. Hythe made 226 for and when the green caps got rid of the dangerous Croxson for 4 they tasted victory. Unfortunately though the visitors held on for the draw.

Hythe lost the toss in a time game and were asked to bat first on a good Hythe pitch. Hythe opened the batting with Grobler and James Page but in the 4th over Hythe lost Page LBW for 3. In came Zac Millar who opened his account 2nd ball he faced with a fine cut through backward point. He and Grobler pushed the scored to 27 before Grobler was caught off the bowling of Croxson for 13.

This brought in Sean Tongs and he and Millar continued to score freely and Millar reached his maiden 50. Tongs then soon reached his 50 but shortly afterwards the paternership of 142 was broken when Millar was run out for 55. Mills then joined Tongs and they added 27 before Tongs was out 3 short of a century. Sam Page went first ball. Matt Howe joined Mills and with some good running they took the total to 226. Well done to I.B.M for getting through 43 overs a good achievement.

After tea Hythe opened the bowling with Rob Saunders and Steve Miller. The first wicket fell in the 5th over when Miller bowled Raza for 4. It was then Saunders who did the damage as he took 4-17 removing the IBM top order with Z.Millar, Mills and Grobler taking good catches. With 20 overs to go IBM were 51 for 5 and had decided to bat out for the draw. Last then joined the wickets taking 2-14 This left Hythe needing to take the final 3 wickets in 13 overs. Howe then removed Karunanithy with 10 overs to go but Hythe could not get the final 2 wickets as Mehadevan 12* and Williams 4* batting out the overs for a draw.
