Under 17's Close In Defeat - But Where's Harry !!!

Paultons proved too good for the U17's last night and a better side that what their position in the league suggests. But Hythe's problems started before the game when The Smith Family decided to leave out Harry to give Todd a game. Fair play to them but was it the right decision.

Paultons won the toss and elected to bat first with rain clouds looming. 12 runs come off the first 2 overs bowled by Sam Page and Todd Powell. Their next 2 went for 17 - Paultons 29-0 off 4. Ben Smith then brought himself on and despite going for 2 fours his last ball picked up Hythe's first wicket bowling Brown for 28.

Next over Tom Richards got the other opener when Gould was well caught by Jonjo Stovell at fine leg. Paultons 39-2. The home side progressed to 60-2 off 10 overs before Baptiste was run out by good work from Luke Blackwell. Wickenden and Murrell then started to take control of the game before some smart work by Matt Young run out Murrell for 11. He did the same thing again to remove Gregory for 2 but Wickenden progressed to 38* at the close thanks to some sloppy fielding by the green caps. Paultons finishing on 115 for 5.

Hythe got off to the worse possible starts when the impressive Anning had Matt Young bowled third ball for 0. Ben Smith and Tom Richards took the score to 18 off 5 when Richards was caught for 7. Damon Lord joined his skipper who smashed a six before being caught off Sydenham for 16 - Hythe 41 for 3 which soon became 4 when Lord was caught & bowled. 44 for 4 off 12 overs.

With the game looked lost Sam Mead and Tom Huxley had a real go at chasing extra bonus points. The pair put on 48 in just 5 overs - Tom Huxley hitting 17 including 2x4's and 1x6. Sam Mead hitting an impressive 30 incuding 3x4's and 1x6. Huxley finally went stumped with 3 balls left. Hythe finishing on 98 for 5 and a 17 run defeat.
