SPARE A THOUGHT FOR THE UNDER 11'S - AFTER HAVING THEIR FIRST FOUR GAMES CANCELLED IN THE SPACE OF 3 WEEKS THEY THEN HAVE TO PLAY 3 SOUTHERN LEAGUE UNDER 11 SIDES IN LYMINGTON 'A', BASHLEY 'A' AND NEXT WEEK NEW MILTON. BASHLEY BATTED FIRST AND MADE 319-3 WITH SAM KELLY 2-16 & ARCHIE GILBERT 1-24 CLAIMING THE WICKETS. IN REPLY HYTHE REDUCED THE HOME SIDE TO JUST 3 WKTS AS THEY MADE 231-3 A GOOD EFFORT

Tough Baptism For Under 11's As They Go Down To Bashley Rydal

After a very tough match last weekend against Lymington 'A' the Under 11’s faced another strong team in Bashley A.

Captain for the day Ben Fenton won the toss and put Bashley into bat first. Bashley’s first pair notched up the score board with 26 runs in their innings, Hythe having difficulty in intercepting boundaries. In each subsequent pair, a noticeably stronger batsman continued to smash the ball around the park with Hythe conceding 16 boundaries in the innings. Hythe’s bowling continues to improve in accuracy, with only two wide balls being at its lowest so far.

Sam Kelly (14-2) and Archie Gilbert(24-1) claimed Hythe’s wickets but the improvement in some of the newer players to the side, particularly the straightness of Neal Read’s bowling(9-0), is worthy of mention.

Hythe went into bat against a total of 319-3 and opened positively with a boundary from Ali Bryers (5 not out) on the first ball. Unfortunately runs seemed hard to come by against a side of strong bowlers and accurate fielding. Tom Ladbury and Ben Fenton found scoring difficult and Fenton was run out on their final ball.

Matt Bennett, with Neil Read as the third pair, ended bowler Louis King-Halford’s hopes of maidens in both his overs with a four in the last ball of each, but was run out in their second over. The final pair, Sam Kelly and Brandon Keates would have added 8 runs to the board but the fourth ball of their last over clipped the wicket, to the surprise of the wicket keeper who thought he had dropped an easy catch. Hythe finished 231-3.

With continued fielding practice to increase accuracy, Hythe should feel confident that they can put up a good fight against a tough side. They face New Milton A at home next Sunday.
