HYTHE SUNDAY XI vs FINCHINGFIELD (Essex)

Sunday 14th June

Hythe Win But It's Close Against Essex Tourists

A strange game at Jones Lane saw a close finish, 330 runs scored 20 wickets taken and only 5 batsman reach double figures

Hythe welcomed Essex tourists Finchingfield to Jones Lane as part of their 2 match New Forest Tour. The tourists had won comfortably on the Saturday in Farnborough, bowling the home side for just 55.

Pagey won the toss and touring sides eticate went out the window with four first teamers screaming for a bat - Pagey elected to bat first.

Pagey himself and Rob James opened the innings on a hot afternoon and put on 104 for the first wicket before Page was out for 35 at 114 L.B.W. Learning quick as a first teamer he claims he was triggered. James meanwhile looked in a positive mood.

Three wickets in an over by G.Ellis then changed the innings as Luke Mills 2, Andrew Woods and Addie Page were dismissed 114 for 4. Greg Woods on his return smashed a 6 and added 34 with James before being 5th out stumped off Ellis for 12 Saunders was then caught soon after to give Ellis his 5 for in just his 6th over. Robbie James then fell for a very good 89 and the tail of M.Edwards 3, Lee Powell 2, and 'The Chairman' Tony Wood 0. Sam Page ended on 4* and Hythe 173 all out off 34.5 overs.

After one of Mrs Pages special teas Hythe took to the money with Pagey protecting his Sunday record right from the off by using first teamers Edwards and Saunders who needed to get their 20 overs for 178 the day prior out of their system.

Edwards claimed 2 wickets in his first over and the vistors were in a spot of trouble. Can't tell you much more as the scorebook is not complete but 2 wickets from Saunders as well had the Essex side 9 for 4 at one stage. Finchingfield were around 60 for 7 when they recovered through T.Burbidge 66 and I.Ruggles-Brown batting at 9 (45) who took the game much closer than expected earlier - as the visitors ended on 163 all out and a 10 run defeat.

Rob Saunders ended with 3-12 and Mike Edwards 3-25 in a good spirited game

Thanks to Finchingfield for the fixture and theyr're always welcome to visit us again. Only downside was they didn't drink unlike many touring sides which doesn't help the club.
