| Zac MILLAR 30* | Kieran CHALMERS 29* |
Hythe & Dibden Under 13’s made it through to the quarter finals of the New Forest Cup with a cracking win over Bramshaw.
Hythe Under 13's made joined the Under 11's in the Quarter-Finals of the respective Cup Competitions with a 6 wicket victory over Northern Section side Bramshaw. Zac Millar 30* and Kieran Chalmers 29* top scored with the bat whilst Sam Long's 2-8 was the higlight with the ball.
Having lost the toss and with rain forecast for later, Bramshaw elected to bat first (very surprisingly) and so with L Reeves (Hampshire U13) and J Arnold , they took to the wicket. Opening duo K Chalmers and J Mead bowled the first four overs and conceded only 10 runs, Kieran gave way to E Carley who continued where he left off last game, removing Arnold LBW for 8 runs. Josh finished his 4 over spell 0 for 18 runs. Richard Jones removed the dangerous Reeves in his first over, caught and bowled and the pressure increased on the Bramshaw batsman as the bowling straightened and the number of dot balls increased. 12 overs gone, 54 for 2.
Sam Long entered the bowling and soon it was 56 for 4, Elliot taking another good catch and then clean bowling J Mason for a Golden. Sam finished 2 for 8 off of 3 overs and he’s still improving.
Alex Nicholas, and the returning Kieran, finished off the overs, Kieran clean bowling A Richards with the first ball of his returning over. Alex finished with 2 overs for 9 runs, Kieran 4 overs, 1 for 10. Bramshaw finished 75 for 6, the last ball producing a run out from (tbc).
After a brief batting order discussion, Jack Knight Owen thrust his name forward to face the Hampshire speedster Reeves – and for the first two overs he played him brilliantly, including short deliveries, one of which cracked into Jack’s glove and dealt out a great deal of pain (quick rub and a kiss of the badge) – Jack battled on but was clean bowled for 3. Richard Jones’s confidence with the bat returned somewhat but he was also clean bowled for 3, the score 6 for 2 off of 3 overs, soon 6 for 3 off of 4 – Sam Long clean bowled by Vane for 0. Enter Zac and Kieran – who saw off the aggressive Reeves – and the score began to climb rapidly as the Hythe batsmen calmed down and punished the Bramshaw bowling. Zac retired on 30 at 62 off of 12 overs.
Nathan entered but was unluckily run out for a duck without facing. Score at 64 for 4 off of 14 overs. Kieran played out the dangerous Reeves last over and, as all good captains do, finished the game off with the help of Elliot Carley who made 6 not out with 5 balls to spare. Kieran finished on 29 not out, but the coaches man of the match would go to Jack Knight Owen who stood up when needed and landed an opening batting slot in the next game to boot – well done Jack.
