HYTHE 1st XI vs CADNAM

Saturday 6th June

CRACKING GAME @ JONES LANE - BUT HYTHE SLUMP TO 3RD DEFEAT IN ROW

Richie Froggett 60* & 1-17 off 9

Hythe 1st XI's put in a much improved performance on Saturday before going down to a well drilled Cadnam side by 3 Wkts.

The Green Caps batted first and made 188 for 6 thanks largely to an unbeaten 7th wkt partnership of 72 between Richie Froggett 60* and Mike Edwards 24*. Cadnam's aussie Sean Durston Ryan carried his bat to win the game with 85*.

Hythe skipper Simon Dixon won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first on a hard wicket. The pair of Dixon and Robbie James started well with 23 coming off the first 4 overs. James looked in very good nick striking 3 lovely fours but then found himself caught at mid wicket for 13. Four runs later and Hythe found themselves in trouble at 27 for 3. First Dixon was adjudged caught behind for 10 and Matt Howe was bowled for 4.

Marc Daniels and Kev James steadily moved the score on with the 50 coming up in the 18th over. At 72 Hythe then lost two more wickets in the space of an over - James was caught in the slips of Vengulopal for 30 and Daniels followed in the same way for 10. Hythe 73 for 5.

James Page joined Richie Froggett in the middle and the pair then added 48 for the 6th wicket. Page hit 23 inc 4 fours before being bowled by Kerley trying to push the score along. Hythe now 121 for 6 off 35 overs. Mike Edwards joined Froggett and in the final 10 overs recovered the score to 188 by putting on an unbeaten partnership of 67. Richie Froggett finished on 60* his fifty coming in 65 balls (quite slow for him !!!) Mike Edwards finished 24*

Cadnam got off to a solid good start through aussie Sean Durston Ryan and Sahib Safraz Cadnam's new recruit from Ampfield. The pair put on 62 in 17 overs befrore Safraz was adjudged LBW for 28. In the same over Cadnam Skipper Paul Kerley was run out by Jon Weall for 0 and in the same over the dangerous Paul Kerley was bowled by Mike Edwards for 0. Good comeback by Edwards whose first over went for 16. Cadnam 62 for 3.

Rob Saunders replaced Jon Weall (1-28 off 10) and with his third ball had R.Way well caught by Robbie James. Hythe were now in charge - if only they could get out the aussie.

Durston Ryan and L.kerley then took the score to 115 for 5 off 33 overs before Kerley was out caught by Page off Saunders. N.Way joined the aussie, who brought up his fifty, and the pair swung the game back in Cadnam's favour by adding 50 for the 6th wicket before Way was well caught by Harry Smith off Matt Howe for 18. Cadnam 165 for 6 (needing 23 off 4 overs)

Into the 43rd over with time slipping away Hythe once again gave themselves a chance when Froggett had Payne caught by Saunders for 4. 11 now needed off 2 overs but Durston Ryan was still there and Green took a liking to Howe's bowling 12 off the over and Cadnam had won with 6 balls to spare. Durston Ryan finished on 85*.

Cracking match played in a good spirit but once again Hythe couldn't see it through for the win. Cadnams bowling attack you fell should see them up near the promotions contenders at the end of the season. Hythe picked up 8 points and Cadnam 21.
