Under 11’s Struggle Against A Strong Lymington Side

Hythe Under 11's found the going tough on Sunday Morning as they crashed by 108 runs to a strong Lymington 'A' side

Captain for the day Ali Bryers lost the toss and Lymington A chose to bat first. Hythe’s bowling was steady and far more accurate than in last week’s match. However, the batsmen were running superbly between the wickets and too many easy singles were conceded. Hythe were unlucky with a good catch being taken by Neal Read from a Brandon Keates no-ball. A marginal run out decision was not given by umpire Tom Huxley.

Keates finally got his reward with his first wicket off his final ball, another good catch taken by Sam Kelly at square leg. An impressive total of 324 for 1 was always going to be a tall order against a team containing a number of New Forest representative players. Bryers and Copley started well scoring from a couple of solid strokes. Runs were hard to come by due to the accuracy of the bowling, Fenton clipped a lovely leg glance for a single, Molyneux defending stoutly getting his front foot well forward. Read and Mould came in as the third pair, again finding scoring difficult but the stumps remained intact until a fluky stumping which rebounded back off the wicketkeepers pads to get Read out most unfortunately.

Sam Kelly and Brandon Keates came in as the last pair, Kelly then smashed the ball around the park scoring four boundaries in his 18 not out one of which nearly went for six. Keates meanwhile, held up the other end and rotated the strike well. Hythe will be working on their fielding in the coming weeks, a bit more aggression needed, but can feel pleased with their bowling against a tough side.

Bashley next week and a cup match on the Monday night against Farley.
