REDLYNCH & HALE vs HYTHE UNDER 17's

Thursday 4th June

Matt YOUNG 28 Harry SMITH 31* - 10 Off Last 3 Balls

Under 17's Last Ball Win And Ends Redlynch's Unbeaten Record.

Hythe Under 17's pulled off a remarkable last ball victory last night over a previous unbeaten Redlynch & Hale side. Star of the show Harry Smith 31* who hit 10 off the last 3 balls for victory and a first win of the season.

On a good looking batting wicket Hythe were put into the field against a side that had beaten Calmore and Milford on Sea so far this season. Hythe were looking for a solid start and Ben Smith opened up with his vice captain Tom Huxley. With 2 no ball 4's in his first three balls it was not the start the green caps needed. First over went for 14 and by the 5 over mark the home side had raced to 36 for 0. Todd Powells 2 overs went for a respectable 0-9 whilst Huxley was withdrawn after 2 overs 0-18.

Sam Page's first over went for 8 but the Redlynch btasman had trouble getting Luke Blackwell away. His 3 overs went for just 10 runs. Tom Richards bowled a good line and claimed the only wicket to when fall when at 61 A.Walker was bowled by a grass cutter for 30.

The Hythe bowlers clawed themselves back into the game with some decent fielding to back them up. Harry Smith bowled 2 overs for just 6 and brother Ben 3 overs for 16. Redlynch ended on 105 for 1. Hythe needing 5.85 an over to win - not bad as the run rate was over 8 after 4 overs. H.Davies finished on 49 not out.

Hythe opened with Jonjo Stovell and Ben Smith. The pair looked in control when Stovell was out for 2 at 6-1. That brought Matt Young to the crease and he and the skipper batted responsibly taking the score to 53 off 12 overs when Smith was run out by a very good piece of fielding for 19.

Harry Smith joined his Under 15 partner and moved the score upto 81 when Young was out caught for a very good 28 including 4 fours. Hythe now needed 25 off 2.1 overs with Damon Lord next batsman in. No guard one ball to face and smash 6 out of the ground. 19 needed off 2 overs which then became 12 off 1 after some good running between the pair.

Harry to face the last over - and the first two balls go for a single followed by a dot ball. 10 off 3 and the home side were confident with plenty of good natured banter to back it up. 4th ball Smith smashes past the fielders for 4 and then the penultimate ball Smith and Lord ran 4 after a mix up and overthrows. Leaving 2 needed off the final ball. The bowler ran in once without bowling to try and distract Harry who was now batting 2 feet out of his crease. When he did finally bowl it Smith hit it down the ground and Damon ran back for the two to win the game. Excellent win which had the homeside arguing between themselves and with Milford on Sea and Paultons still to play then maybe a mid table spot is still possible for the green caps.

With the news that the Under 13's had won as well thats 4 wins for the colts sides this week - excellent news..
