HYTHE & DIBDEN UNDER 11's

Vs SWAY

Sunday 31st May

Sam KELLY 12 & 1-15	Ali BRYERS 2-20

Finally – A Game! As Under 11's Go Down Fighting

After four cancelled fixtures the Under 11s were beginning to wonder whether the season would ever start. After a hastily put together training match last week gave the newest members of the team some match practice the team was raring to go! The day was beautiful and eight nervous Colts set off for Sway. With Sam Kelly as captain, Hythe won the toss and put Sway into bat.

Sam opened the bowling and Sway got off to a slow start with single runs. The score was kept down by a wicket in the third over, a great catch by Tom Copley. Sway’s second pair lost wickets in three out of their four overs with two clean bowls from Ali Bryers and one from Matt Bennett. The score took a sharp incline during the final pair’s innings when one of the pair hit 6 boundaries. Sway’s 44 runs, coupled with extras of 46, mainly though wides, left us chasing 290 – 4.

Sam Kelly and Tom Copley opened well, with runs of 12 and 8 respectively with Sam recovering from a fall on the last ball of the over in the nick of time. Hythe lost 3 wickets to the same bowler, one bowled, one caught and one run out. Jacob Mould was on the receiving end of two of these, but also managed to hit 2 boundaries in his debut match. Hythe did well in their first match (four new players). An encouraging display at bat and field, with a final score of 272 – 3, gives us hope for the rest of the season.
