HYTHE BOWLERS STRUGGLE ON BATSMANS PARADISE
The Lymington Sports Centre track was back to its true best as it gave no help to Hythe's bowlers as they toiled to a 7 wicket defeat. Hythe batted first and made 207 for 9 with Matt Howe scoring a avery good 55. Richie Froggett gave the innings a boost scoring 45 in 36 balls but Hythe were definately 30 runs short of a good target.

| Matt Howe - 55 | Richie Froggett 45 |
Stand in skipper Robbie James won the toss and elected to bat first. Marc Daniels joined him at the crease in the absence of skipper Simon Dixon and Wrighty who didn't want to open. The pair got off to a solid but cautious start putting on 31 for the first wicket before James was out for 23 trying to push the score along. James 23 was scored in 50 balls. Daniels soon followed - out for a 42 ball 16 and Hythe were 49 for 2 off 19 overs which then put pressure on the middle order.
Wrighty's decision not to open back fired when he was caught for 1 at 75. Kev James went for 9 and Hythe were struggling at 92 for 4 off 29 overs. Matt Howe was then joined by Richie Froggett who not for the first time this season, showed the ability to push the score along. The pair put on 71 for the 5th wicket in just 10 overs before Froggett was out for 46 (6 fours & 1 six) Two wickets then followed quickly as Page went for a duck and Howe was stumped for a very good 55.(8 fours). 5 overs to go and only 164 on the board but a useful 9th wicket partnership between Luke Mills 11* and Jon Weall 18 in 9 balls took the score to 207 at the close. Weall out on the final ball. For Lymington the star was 15 year old N.Elliott who took 4 for 43 off 7 overs and veteran C.Noble 0-16 off 10. Simon Naylor took 3-37 off his 10 overs.
Hythe took to the field confident that their bowlers could do another decent job, but with a very experienced top 4 Lymington soon took control. Richie Froggett went for 12 in his second over and found the going tough - so much that Robbie James took him off after just 4 overs. The first wicket put on 35 for the 1st wicket before Weall had A.Hunt caught by Saunders 24. Jackson and Trestrill took the score upto 58 when Trestrill was excellently caught by Page in the slips off Saunders who was once again Hythe's best bowler. Griffiths in at 4 looked in fine nick as Edwards found to his cost. The score moved upto 95 for 2 at the 20 mark which was well ahead offf the Hythe score at the same time (50 for 2)
Griffiths was then caught by Robbie James 95 for 3 and Hythe must have felt they had a chance, but M.Jackson and S.King had different ideas as they ripped into the Hythe bowlers and as the partnership built the gaps seemed to get bigger and bigger in the field.. They put on an unbeaten 113 partnership to take the game with 4 overs remaining. Jackson made 68* (his 50 coming up in 122 minutes) and King 64* inc 11 fours.
So 2-2 record for Hythe now and some tough fixtures over the next few weeks ahead against Cadnam and Old Basing..
