With forcasts of thunderstorms and heavy showers - Sturry surprisingly arrived at Jones Lane to hot sunshine. The Kent outfit had a won one lost one record so far on their New Forest Tour and elected to bat first on a very good wicket.
Paul Quinell opened the bowling with Hythe old boy Tom Barge and it was Barge who took the early wicket. D.Hands and S.Fellows then added a decent partnership for the tourists. Hythe were hampered in the field when Tom Huxley faked injury and had to go off though the real reason was the tourist were chatting up his girlfriend on the sidelines. Andrew Woods deputised for the green caps.
S.Fellows was the main contibutor of runs for Sturry - his innings of 90 in the mid afternoon heat included 11 fours and 3 sixes. But Hythe fought back with Tom Barge taking a respectable 3-25 off 8 and the returning Huxley 3-24 off 6. Innings of 27 by F.Monger and 22 from M.Hackett took the Sturry score up past the 200 and they were finally bowled all out for 214.
Hythe opened the batting with out of form Marc Daniels and Richie Froggett whose after a higher spot up the First team batting order. Both were soon in dominant mood as both past fifty and took the score to 122 before Froggett was first out for 67.His innings included 11 fours but surprisingly no sixes. Daniels past his partners score just and was then out for 68 caught off the bowling of Fellows. Daniels innings included 9 fours and one six.
Mike Edwards continued to dominate the bowling and he and Matt Young (19*) passed the Sturry score with 4 overs remaining. Edwards finished 35* his knock included a six and 4 fours.
A good game played in good spirit and we thank the Sturry lads for the game, for the revenue behind the bar and especially for coming back to the ground on Saturday evening..
