HYTHE UNDER 13'S vs FAWLEY

21st May @ Hythe

HYTHE MAKE IT 3 IN A ROW

Richard JONES 32* Kieran CHALMERS 30*

Hythe & Dibden Under 13’s made it 3 in a row with a comfortable 55 run victory over local rivals Fawley. Believe it or not the sun actually appeared for the first time and it was a surprisingly warm evening (for a while) at Jones Lane for the U13’s local derby.

Kieran won the toss - also for the 3rd time in a row - and elected to bat. Openers Z Millar & R Jones quickly set about the Fawley bowlers, scoring 45 runs off the first 6 overs before Zac fell for 12 LBW to Bunday. Kieran & Richard continued the run rate - Richard finally retiring on 32 - bringing a nervous James Bidwell to the crease. Once off the mark - nerves gone, James settled in and provided the strike to his captain as much as possible to keep the runs ticking. James was run out for 5 but the smile of relief at not getting a duck this time showed it was good enough for him.

The score at 80 for 2 off of 12 overs and Josh Mead joined Kieran at the middle, after a slow start he soon found the Fawley bowlers to his liking and dispatched 4 boundaries in his innings of 27 not out. Kieran retired at 30, Jack Knight Owen run out without facing a ball dampened his evening but he still managed to smile it off as the Hythe innings finished at 127 for 3.

After a quick turnaround the Fawley openers Bunday and Freeman took 12 off Kieran’s first over and looked quite settled as a run chase was mounted. The breakthrough came in the 2nd over - a Nathan Froggett run out from square leg with a direct throw at the stumps, had Bunday slid his bat in he would have made it - but an excellent bit of fielding none the less (that’s why we practice fielding a lot guys!)

The run rate dropped dramatically as Kieran and Josh turned the screw finding length and line on a typical Hythe quick wicket. The 2nd wicket fell in the 5th over - Kieran clean bowling Freeman for 4, quickly followed by the Fawley No. 3 Cooper - Josh Mead continuing his good bowling form with the help of another good catch from Elliott Carley. 22 - 3 off 6 overs. Bowling changes made Elliott down the hill - Alex Nicholas up the hill and it was Alex who broke through in the 10th - clean bowling D Knight for 1 run. 39 - 4 off of 10 overs.

Hythe were bowling tightly and rang the changes again with J Bidwell taking 2 wickets in an over, another sharp catch from Carley - this time at gulley and a catch behind the stumps by impressive wickey Zac Millar.

Another run out completed the wickets to fall, again James Bidwell’s name went in the book to cap off a good game for him. Fawley’s innings came to a close on 72 for 7 - an impressive and very pleasing bowling and fielding display from the green caps.

A special thanks goes to Alex Nicholas and particularly to Billy Allan who at very short notice (as he was going out the door to come and watch the match) turned out to play following the withdrawal of Sam Long and Marc Reid through illness - both acquitted themselves very well.
