HYTHE UNDER 17's vs FAWLEY

Thursday 14th May

Streather Too Good For Hythe As Fawley Win In The Dark.

Another damp and dull evening but after a lot of deliberation it was decided that Hythe Under 17's game with Fawley could go ahead.

Fawley won the toss and elected to bat in the lighter conditions. Ben Smith opened with himself and Luke Blackwell and after 4 overs Fawley only had 15 on the board and things were going quite well. Sam Page replaced Smith and got the break through in his first over thanks to a good catch by Damon Lord.

That brought in young Streather and the runs soon flowed more easily. At the half way stage Fawley were 56 for 1 but in the 11th over a brilliant piece of fielding by Jonjo Stovell run out Alfie Cole (25). Streather took his scoring upto a very good 50 which meant he had to retire. He was dropped just once by Ben Smith and his innings included 6 fours. Fawley finished their 18 overs on 121 for 3 with S.Jones 19 *. Hythe's best bowler Ben Smith who went for just 14 off his 4 overs. Hythe were good in the field but the bowling as a unit all tried to bowl too fast and were too wayward.

Hythe opened with Jonjo Stovell and Tom Richards but in the second over Richards was heading back to the pavillion for 2. Sam Page (batting at 3 for the injured Matt Young) soon followed and Hythe were 12 for 2. Ex Hythe player Ross Melton then came onto bowl and ended all Hythe's chances in the 8th over with 3 wickets. Stovell was caught for 17 and then Skipper Ben Smith was bowled for 0. 3 balls later Harry Smith was also bowled for 0. Melton continued his demolition in his next over when he had Damon Lord bowled for 10.Meltons final figures 4-1-7-4

As it got even darker Hythe surprisingly began to bat better. Tom Huxley ended on 15 not out and Luke Blackwell 11 not out as Hythe finished on 70 for 6 from their 18 overs. Another defeat but no disgrace against a good Fawley side.
