Sunday saw the return fixture of the Sunday friendlies with Locksheath. Unfortunately for the Green Caps they came out second best once again. But a great site to see two Sunday sides both full of up and coming colts and the games played in great spirit.
Still waiting for the skippers report - but obviously he has better things to do this week with a 40 year old and a piece of rope.
Hythe had to make a very late change when first team hero Rob Saunders failed to show after his celebrations the night/morning before. James rung up brother Sam for his first game of the season.
Locksheath batted first and from the previous days game the Hythe lads new runs would not come easy. M.Bridges got the visitors off to a good start but they lost frequent wickets at the other end. Richie Bunce opened the bowling with Ben Smith and it was Ben who claimed the first scalp thanks to a catch from brother Harry. Next in South African import J.Fowler. No problem Pagey sends on brother Sam to bowl and the sixteen year old bowls him for 13.
Sam went onto take 3-17 off 8 overs - great start and in front of Under 17 captain Ben Smith who failed to bowl him on Thursday evening. James Page 3-22 and Ben Smith 3-25 also pitched in with Harry getting the other wicket. Only Bridges 57 and skipper Hugh Walker 19 gave any real resistance as the Locksheath innings ended on 158 all out. Richie Bunce ended with 0-20 off 8 a good first work out of the season for him.
Hythe got off to another bad start losing both Tongs 2 and Steve Weall 5 early. Weallo triggered by Jonjo but I am sure he'll get his own back through the season. The mini recovery came in the shape of Matt Howe and Ewan Bell who was till smarting from his boundary hitting the day before. Unfortunately this was 24 hours later and Bellie was struggling to get it off the square. Bell finally went for 29 and at drinks Hythe were looking for 7 an over. Howe also went for 21 and with that the Hythe innings crumbled. Hythe 108 all out with young J.Griffiths claiming 5 for 2 for Locksheath.Well done top him.
So a disapointing day for the Green Caps which now gives them a 2 & 2 record for the season.
But one person went home happy - Sam Page - a late call up and the scalp of a South African. Even better though - just like out of a Waltons TV ending he was sent to bed with 'I was proud of you today bruv' from brother James. Happy families
