MARCHWOOD BOYS FROGGETT & SAUNDERS SEAL HYTHE WIN

Richie Froggett On His Way To 45

Hythe 1st XI's opener against Hamble yesterday turned into a nervy affair after 18 wickets fell for just 207 runs in the game, hwoever both skippers refused to blame the pitch for the low scoring - just good bowling and rash shots.

Hythe new boy Rob Saunders capped his league debut with a fine 5 for 14 whilst it was left to 'The Coach' Rich Froggett batting at 7, to set up the win for Hythe with 45 valuable runs.

Hamble's preparations for the game were dented when they lost skipper Chris Mottola to mumps. Hamble though won the toss and stand in skipper G.Power asked Hythe to field first on what looked a good batting wicket.

Lahuira Don and A.Khan then proceeded to take 35 runs off the first 5 overs bowled from Jon Weall and Richie Froggett. In the 6th though Froggett fought back - clean bowling Khan for 5. Three overs later and Weall turned the game taking 2 wickets in an over. First he bowled the dangerous Don for 37 - his short innings included 8 fours, then he had Seward judged L.B.W. for 0. Hamble 45 for 3.

Weall came off after bowling a 6 over spell 2-28 and Dixon enforced a double change when Froggett came off 6 overs 1-23. Into the attack came Rob Saunders and a surprise to most - Luke Mills with Edwards and Howe left waiting in the wings.

Sanders first 5 overs went for just 8 runs whilst Puncheys first 5 went for 19 as D.Fielder and skipper G.Power looked to rebuild the Hamble total. At 82 for 3 though Saunders took 2 wickets in 2 balls - first bowling Fielder for 26 and the Uncle Trev raised his finger for an L.B.W against Bowden first ball. Hamble 82 for 5 which soon bacame 83 for 7 as Mills had Emre caught by James Page for 1 and then Saunders had skipper Power L.B.W for 10.

Next over Mills took his second wicket ( full praise to the skipper for the faith shown in him) Robbie James with the catch and when Saunders had Sequira L.B.W in the 28th over Hamble were 101 for 9. Two overs later innings over Saunders claiming his 5th wicket, bowling Honeyball for 1.Hamble 103 all out in just 30 .2 overs.

A fine performance in the field by the Green Caps and well done to Rob Saunders 5-14 off 10.2 overs on debut. Well done too to Punchey 2-33 off 9 and a great fightback after Mondays performance.

After one of Mrs Froggett's special teas Hythe began their reply with the worse possible starts - losing both openers for 0 and at 9 overs Hythe were 8 for 3 with Page, Robbie James and Marc Daniels back in the bar.M.Hannah's spell of 7 overs produced 2-4 - excellent figures..

Hythe gradually tried to rebuild through Matt Howe (15) and Kev James (20) who took the score to 36 before Howe was bowled by J.Sewards first ball. Soon after Hythe were back in trouble at 42 for 5 when they lost skipper Si Dixon for 1. Richie Froggett came in wondering what all the fuss was about as he smashed his first ball for 4 off Seward and also gave Don little respect at the other end.

The Hamble boys however kept fighting and at 67 Hythe lost their 6th wicket when Kev James produced his trademark cow shot. Edwards then joined the impressive Froggett and set up the win with a 31 run partnership. Froggett scored 45 valuable runs including 6 fours and a six before being judged L.B.W off Lidstone with just 6 runs required. Hythe the got home with 13 overs remaining - Mike Edwrads 10* and Luke Mills 2*.

Hythe picked up 20 points and Hamble 5.
