Under 13's Win Opener In The Gloom By 2 Runs
A cold, damp, windy evening at Jones Lane for the Under 13’s first match of the season against Pylewell Park A.
Kieran Chalmers won the toss and opted to bat first – a good decision in the failing light.
Run rate of just above 5 per over, with Z Millar retiring on 32, saw the green caps run up a respectable total of 88 (64 off the bat & 24 extras) – enough to defend. A quick turnaround, with both sets of parents making full use of our well manned bar for hot drinks – and Hythe had to field in very gloomy circumstances. Some excellent wicket keeping from Millar – in for the first time – including a spectacular catch on the run - and some good stops in the field.
Good line and length from Chalmers & newcomer Long and tight bowling from Jones & Mead (with a wicket maiden) saw Pylewell needing a 4 off the last ball to snatch it – a swift single, a run-out and a win for Hythe on the final ball. Sighs of relief all round.
