FROM THE ATTIC- 5
From the Attic this week - The Hythe Colts Sides Upsetting the Form Book
It's a last look back at games from the past and this time we look at some of the Hythe Colts Top Peformances when they have upset the form books. There hasn't been many over the years so lets enjoy them
The first ones from 2007 when Gary Howe's Under 17's finished third in the league. In this game they trounced Calmore Sports (who finished the season in 2nd place ) by 9 Wickets.
Game 2 is from 2008 and Hythe Under 15's (1 from the bottom) shock win over 4th place Cranbourne. What made it more special is just 3 days earlier Sallys lads had been maulled by O.T's in the cup.
Game 3 also came from last season as Hythe Under 11's pulled off a great win against Totton & Eling ( which is always worth remembering)
Finally Game 4 - we can't forget Froggie's Under 13's from last year and a cracking game in the drizzle at Sway. In the only game played in the Forest on that evening two evenly matched sides took the game to the final ball in the dark before Hythe came out winners by 2 runs.

'Emphatic 17's Win at Loperwood'
Hythe Under 17's travelled to Loperwood expecting the toughest game of the season so far, but thanks to 5 wickets from Pistol Pete Stevens, 3 from Ben Smith and a vicious unbeaten 41* from Tom Porter the green caps strolled to a 9 wicket win.
Hythe won the toss and Russell Moore decided to take to the field. Pete Stevens gave Hythe the perfect start with 2 wickets in his first over. Richrad Last opened from the other end and went for 10 in his first over, but then tightened up. By the 7th over Stevens had claimed another two wickets and Calmore were reeling at 30 for 5.
Stevens finished with 5 for 21 and was replaced by Ben Smith who proved too much for the Calmore lower order claiming 3 clean bowleds and figures of 3-5. Calmore 58 all out in just 13.2 overs.
Hythe got off to the worse possible start when skipper Russell Moore was out for 0. Hythe 5 for 1 off 4 overs. Tom Porter and Matt Howe saw out the impressive left arm seam of Lavelle 4-2-5-0 and then set sword to the Calmore bowlers. Hythe moved to 31 for 1 at the half way stage with Porter hitting 2 sixes. Hythe needed just 2 runs to win off the final 2 overs which they did with ease. Tom Porter finished on 41* and Matt Howe 20* to send Hythe into second place in the league.

| Jonjo STOVELL 43* | Harry SMITH 3-23 |
Stovell Shines as Under 15's Shock 4th Place Cranbourne.
Just 3 days after a 79 run mauling against O.T's & Romsey in the cup, Hythe under 15's took on 4th place Cranbourne at Jones Lane expecting another tough morning. But skipper Jonjo Stovell 43* and Sam Mead 28 had othe ideas as Hythe piled up 122 for 3 off their 18 overs.
Cranbourne won the toss and surprisingly decided to field first. Stovell and Tom Richards (14) got Hythe off to a good start - Hythe 43 for 1 when the first wicket fell. Sam Mead came in at 3 and scored a quick fore 28 including 2 sixes and and 3 fours. Damon Lord and Matt Young missed out on the run feast but Harry Smith came in to join the skipper and help Stovell reach 43* before he had to retire - his innings included 7 fours. Harry Smith continued the big hitting scoring a six and 2 fours in his 18* as Hythe ended on 122 for 3.
Hythe continued their impressive performance in the field as all the five Hythe bowlers chipped in with wickets. Todd Powell took 2-17 off 4 overs whilst Sam Page 2-10 off 2. But it was Harry Smith who made the most impact taking 3-23 off 4 overs to give Hythe a deserved win by 33 runs.

| Ali BRYERS 2-7 | Alex NICHOLAS 11 |
Under 11's Surprise 'The Eels' For Great Win
Hythe Under 11's pulled off a shock victory against the mighty Totton & Eling by 13 runs. Any side coming out of the academy of the Southern League Club will always be half decent side and for a Hythe side to beat them is always something special.
Alex Nicholas won the toss and asked Totton to bat first. Only one run came off the bat in the first 4 overs and Ali Bryers picked up the bonus of a wicket in the second over to make the visitors 210 for 1. Sam Kelly took a wicket in the 5th over and when Bryers returned in the 8th and claimed another wicket Totton were now 211 for 3 at the half way stage. Ali Bryers finishing his spell with a fine 2 for 7 off 3 overs. Archie Gilbert claimed the next wicket in bizarre circumstances when the batsman knocked off his own bail. But the third pair for Totton did take the score upto 225 for 4 after 12 overs with one pair to go. With 4 overs to go Hythe looked in a decent position but the normally reliable Alex Nicholas struggled in the 13th over bowling 4 wides. 9 runs came of the next over and the score had moved upto 244. With 13 coming off the final 2 overs Hythe were set 262 to win.
After Tom Nicholas had given his lads a confidence boosting team talk Hythe opened the innings with Mitch Parker and Archie Gilbert. Obviously the biscuits were more important than the team talk as Hythe got off to the worse possible start - Mitch Parker was out twice in just the first over. He did redeem himself scoring 8 runs by the end of the 4 overs. Archie ended 3 not out. and the pair (+11) - Hythe 211 for 2. David Pepper (playing only his second game) came in next with Sam Kelly. Pepper hit a high no ball for 4 off the first ball he faced. The pair put on 13 for the second pairing without losing a wicket - Hythe 235 for 2. The third pairing of Billy Allam and Ali Bryers did just as well taking the score to 257 for 2. That put Hythe 5 runs short of the target with 4 overs to go and Hythe's best batsman Alex Nicholas still to bat. Alex hit 11 not out and Harrison 2 not out to take the green caps to 274 for 2 and a famous win by 13 runs.

| Kieran CHALMERS 18 | Richard JONES 2-3 |
It's a Win In The Dark & Drizzle For The Under 13's - But Boy It's Close.
Hythe won the toss and elected to bat first in the hope of setting a good total on a large outfield. But conditions were tricky as Josh Mead soon found out - caught for 2 with the score on 7. Kieran Chalmers and Richard Jones then pushed the score upto 27 in 11 overs before Jones was out for 7. Hythe then started to lose wickets regularly with both Zac Millar and Jack Knight-Owen getting ducks. James Bidwell (3*) and Chris Griffin (5) supported Chalmers to (18) before he run himself out trying to improve the run rate. Bidwell and Charlie Crane saw Hythe to a batting point and 56 for 7 off their 18 overs - Surely not enough.
Froggie did one of his pep talks and the green caps went into the field with purpose. Kieran Chalmers and Josh Mead were asked to bowl their 4 overs each straight off and they responded brilliantly. Sway 16 for 2 after 8 overs - Chalmers finishing his spell 1 for 6 and Mead 1-10. Zac Millar and Tom Smith replaced the opening bowlers - Millar bowling 2 maidens before getting Sways third wicket. Smith went for 13 off his 3 overs and Sway were 35 for 3 and still needing 20 runs from the final 4 overs.
Marc Reid bowled the next over which went for 8 - just 12 now needed off 3 but Froggie has Richard Jones up his sleeve for 2 of the final 3 overs. Jones claims a wicket and just 2 runs come off his first over. Sway start uping the tempo for runs and 8 come off the penultimate over from Charlie Crane. 1 over to go Sway need 4 runs to win with 6 wickets in hand (and its dark) over to Richard Jones. A dot ball was followed by a wicket - caught behind. Two more dot balls and a run out - a dot ball and a single - Sway finish 3 runs short of their target to the jubilation of the Hythe players. Despite the conditions a great game of cricket and a much deserved win for the Under 13's.
