Hythe 2's Sign Off With Win Over Bashley 2's
The Basement Battle of Division 1 between Hythe 2's and Bashley 2's ended with a win for the Green Caps by 3 wickets with 13 balls to spare.
Bellie won the toss for the first time this season and elected to field first against a 5 man opposition. P.Kemp and D.Morris got Bashley off to a decent start but the Hythe bowlers fought back to restrict their opponents to 106 for 3 off their 12 overs. Ben Smith was the pick of the Hythe bowlers going for just 19 off his 3 overs. Brother Harry picked up a wicket 1-24 off 3.
Hythe got off to a good start in reply through veterans Wayne Effeny and Sean Tongs. Effeny was first out for 18 whilst Tongs took his score to 26* before he had to retire. Hythe had a min blip losing both Moore and Ben Smith cheaply but skipper Ewan Bell 13* saw Hythe home to their second win of the season and guarantee a finish above their opponents. Sadly not enough to avoid relegation but they've achieved more wins than expected and Bellie's confident of a quick return to the top flight.
