Skipper on Form But Can't Save 2's
A fighting 26* from 2's skipper Ewan Bell couldn't save his side from a strong New Milton outfit who move to the top of Division 1. It was just reward for Bellie who spent most of the morning on the phone trying to find an Umnpire and Scorer for the game.
Hythe lost the toss and New Milton elected to field first.
Hythe again opened with the experience of Sean Tongs and Wayne Effeny against some tight New Milton bowling. Both Effeny (8) and Tongs (10) went cheaply and Hythe were indepted to the skipper Ewan Bell - who for the second week running retired after scoring a gutsy 26 not out. Russell Moore (0) and Darren Miller (4) failed to keep the scorer busy and Hythe finished on a disappointing 81 for 4.
In reply New Milton found Russell Moore in fine form with the ball. He removed both Whitehouse (6) and Beck (0) and finished with the best bowling figures of a Hythe player so far this season 2-13 off 2.3 overs. (A vast contrast to his 0-34 off 2.5 overs last week)
However with Armstrong 26* retired, Rafferty 24* and Taylor 15* in total control, New Milton got home with 2.3 overs to spare to leave the 2's win less after four games and one off the bottom of the table. But a decent performance by the 2nd string against their Southern League opponents. Well done also to Steve Miller for Umpiring and Harry Smith for scoring.
