HYTHE & DIBDEN 2nd XI vs PYLEWELL PARK II's

23rd August 2008

Seasoned Campaigners Seal Hythe Win

Hythe's seasoned campaigners saw Hythe through to a 5 wicket win over Pylewell Park on Saturday. Chalky White (3-31) and Wayne Effeny (3-19) played a big part in reducing the Forest side to 161 all out. Skipper Mike Bowman (44) and Wayne Effeny (56) shared in a 85 run second wicket stand to set up victory which Gary Howe (18*) completed a fine win for the green caps.

Hythe won the toss and elected to field first. Mike Bowman and Ian White opened the bowling, keeping things tight and making the initial breakthrough before Greg Woods and Lee Powell took over. Some clean hitting kept the score moving but it was only a matter of time before wickets started to fall and once Wayne Effeny clean bowled the hard hitting T Mapes the Pylewell innings stuttered along closing on 161 all out in the 42^nd over. There were catches for L Powell (2), I White (2) P Stevens snr. and a stumping by G Howe while M Bowman and W Effeny (3) clean bowled their wickets.

In reply Sean Tongs (11) was bowled with the score on 21 but Mike Bowman (44) and Wayne Effeny (56 including 2 sixes) put together a stand of 85 from 21 overs to put Hythe in control and despite two wickets falling with the score on 140 there were no further alarms as the winning runs came from a wide in the 39^th over giving Hythe a victory by 5 wickets and 24 points.
