Phil Pick
ON A PLEASANT EVENING HYTHE UNDER 13'S TOOK TO THE FIELD AGAINST A STRONG LANGLEY MANOR 'A' FOR THE PHIL PICK TROPHY. PHIL WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD BY THE EFFORT PUT IN BY THE GREEN CAPS AND THE SPORTSMANSHIP SHOWN BY BOTH SIDES BUT UNFORTUNATELY LANGLEY WERE TOO STRONG AND CAME OUT WINNERS FOR THE FOURTH TIME.

LANGLEY MANOR 'A' Vs HYTHE UNDER 13'S

21st July @ Knellers Lane

Next Year Says Rich as Langley Too Strong For Hythe

On a pleasant evening and a good size crowd assembled Langley Manor won the Phil Pick Trophy for the fourth time beating a brave Hythe side by 7 wickets. The Langley side finished third in the North Division and were always going to be a tough ask for the Hythe side with many of their lads a year under the age group. But Rich assures me that next year we will win it for the first time.

Phil if your listening - remember that.

Hythe won the toss and surprisingly elected to bat first against stronger opposition. Much depended on Hythe's two openers and they got off to a bright start with 10 coming off the first over. But in the second disaster struck as Jewell removed three Hythe batsman in one over.

First he bowled Chalmers (1) then had Tom Smith caught by McClaren (1) and his third with the 6th ball bowled Josh Mead for a duck - Hythe 13 for 3 off 2.

Chris Griffin came in at 5 and helped Richard Jones take the score to 21before Jones became Jewell's fourth victim for 11. In the 6th over with the score on 31 Hythe lost their 5th wicket when Griffin was bowled by Price for 2. Zac Millar and Alex Nicholas then combined with the best partnership of the innings (30) in 7 overs to take the score upto 61 before Millar was bowled by Batten for 18 ( inc 2 fours).

Nicholas continued to play his shots against bowlers three years above his age group. Unfortunately noone wanted to stay with him - George Prodromou was bowled by Battan for 0 as was Nathan Froggett leaving Hythe 71 for 8. Knight-Owen was bowled for 1 and James Bidwell was the last man out for 0 leaving Nicholas stranded 21 not out. Hythe 73 all out in 15.4 overs. Nicholas innings included an impressive 4 fours

Langley Manor went into bat and Hythe got off to the perfect start - Josh Mead bowling Hillman for 0. Langley Manors young lady batting at the other then smashed a ball into point which hit a bump and darted up into the head of Nathan Froggett who after a short stop bravely continued with an egg on his head. C.Pilcher and D.Morrison then put on 45 for the second wicket in only 7 overs before Pilcher was caught by Bidwell off Jones for 23. At 71 Hythe got a third wicket - Morrison caught and bowled by Bidwell for 28 - Langley Manor 71 for 3 needing 5 to win.

After just 11.3 overs they reached their target to take the trophy for another year. But a smashing game played on a lovely wicket. Phil would have been proud.

At the presentation the Trophy was presented to the Langley Manor captain and Alex Nicholas won the Man of the Match award for his fine innings.
