Hythe Lose Two Twenty20's

With a heavy shower just an hour before the start and more forcasted the decision was to play two Twenty20's on the artificial, so if it rained atleast we get one game in.

Hythe's batted first on both occasions but still couldn't find their first win over a touring side this year. losing in the 19th & 17th over.

Robbie James Captaining the Hythe side containing several colts.

Game 1 - The opposition put Hythe into bat for both games and in the first he opened up with Tony North and Pete Stevens snr. Hythe got off to a slow start with the Hythe batsman struggling with the bounce of the pitch and slow outfield. Tony North (25) Pete Stevens (14) and Matt Howe (25) all got themslelves in without getting a big score and Sean Tongs (22*) and Michael Graham (1*) were there at the end as Hythe finished on a disappointing 108 for 4 off their 20 overs.

Hythe needed to bowl well to have any chance of the win and Last gave them an early wicket bowling Rafael for 6. But Hart (20) and Washer (31) put Smarden well in control of the game. Richard Last 2-23 off 4, Michael Graham 1-16 off 4 and Pete Stevens snr 2-16 off 4 gave Hythe a chance but Smarden got home with 1 over to spare at 111 for 6.

Game 2 - Reverse Batting Orders

After tea for the second game both captains agreed to reverse their batting orders. Hythe then opened with skipper Robbie James and Sam Page. Both openers went early but a decent partnership between Harry Smith and Pete Stevens jnr put Hythe on 60 for 2 after 10 overs. (Well ahead of where we were in the first game) Stevens hit 2 sixes and a reverse sweep 4 in a top score of 32 before being the first of 4 run outs in the Hythe innings.

Big hope the Fonz went in next only to be run out two balls later for 0. Micahel Graham hit a quick fire 22 including 2 sixes before The Guru shamefully run out Harry Smith for 22 including a lovely square leg 6.

Hythe finished on 119 for 7 and give themselves a chance after scoring 41 off the last 6 overs.

Smarden started with their two not out batsman from the first innings and got off to a very strong chance. Stevens snr and Last went for 32 between them off the first 4 overs but a good effort from Matt Howe 2-18 off 4 and Sean Tongs 3-15 off 4 gave Hythe an outside chance. Unfortunately for Hythe Smarden enjoyed the bowling of Pete Stevens jnr 0-17 off 2 and Harry Smith 0-16 off 1 and got home with 16 balls to spare.

J.Barker 77* top scored for Smarden (dropped on 2 by Sam Page and later by Matt Young ) Pete Stevens jnr however took two good catches but it was a good afternoon and well played Robbie for giving everyone a game.
