Twenty20 Challenge
Hythe & Dibden XI vs CLAYHILL DRAGONSLAYERS
7th August Played @ Jones Lane
HYTHE'S FUTURE TOO GOOD FOR NEWCOMERS
Croucheys team of past & present colts were much too good for Clayhill Dragonslayers playing in their first season of competitive cricket. On a pleasant evening Hythe's total of 140 for 6 proved too much of a test for the visitos who replied with 63 all out.
Russell Moore won the toss and elected to bat first, opening with Matt Young and Pete Stevens jnr who quickly got into a mean streak hitting 3 fours and a six in the first 6 overs. Hythe had 52 for 0 on the board after 7 overs but then Faulkner struck claiming two wickets for Clayhill in successive balls. First Stevens was out caught behind for 26 then Page was brilliantly caught by Wilson first ball for 0 ( & he didn't even drop his fag in the process)
Matt Howe then joined Young and added 34 before Hythe again lost 2 wickets in 6 balls. Matt Young was caught for 23 and then Howe was bowled by Ross for a quick fire 25 including 4 fours. Hythe 93 for 4 off 13.
The Fonz next in hit a 6 off his first scoring shot and went on to add 22 for the 5th wicket with his skipper Moore. At 115 Hythe again lost 2 wickets in 2 balls when Last was given out LBW for 15 and then Matt Stark got a golden. Moore 17* and Sam Mead 10* then added 25 as the innings ended on 140 for 6.
With the clouds coming over Clayhill struggled from the off as The Fonz and Greg Woods took 3 wickets between them off the first 4 overs. Credit to Crouchey he recognised the opposition were struggling and changed the bowling. Matt Stark then bowled 3 overs for 13 claiming 2 wickets and James Carse 2 overs for 5 claiming 1 wicket. Clayhill 29 for 6 off 9.
Jon Pearson even claimed his first wicket in senior cricket and to rub it in Pagey picked up the final wicket when their young lady hit her own stumps.
